Story Behind the Art:

This rug was created in the Varanasi region of India, in theBhadohi village. These rugs are made by Mahmood and his family.They are processed and hand-tufted in their home, and everyone inthe family helps out, from his wife, Shakiba to the youngestdaughter, Jamila. Hand-tufting is a rug-making process whereweavers insert yarn into the backing with a hand-held tufting gunto push and pull the threads through a pre-woven and stenciledgrid. Once the tufting is complete an additional backing isattached to protect the stitches. In a tufted rug, the tops of theloops are sheared for a softer, plusher pile.

The handcrafted touch of artisan skill creates variations incolor, size and design. If buying two of the same item, slightdifferences should be expected. Note: Color discrepancies may occurbetween this product and your computer screen.
