The U-shopper basket is the perfect tote, beach bag, shopper, everyday bag, or home decor basket. The beautiful bolga baskets are hand-woven in small villages of Ghana, a tradition passed down from generation to generation. They are woven out of renewable resources, including banana leaf and elephant grass, which grow abundantly in the region.

Story Behind the Art:
The Gitzelli artisans work in Kenya and Ghana to weave beautiful, traditional baskets in many designs and colors. Artisans live in low income areas and make their living off selling their crafts or taking daily temporary labor for minimum wage. In Kenya, the artisans come from wide parts of the country. Most weavers come from the Eastern region where the climate is dry and conducive to the production of the sisal -- this is their main source of income. In Central Kenya, most artisans have small pieces of land where they practice subsistence farming. They subsidize their income through weaving products with banana leaf. Gitzelli Imports has helped connect these artisans to bigger markets and enhance their low income.
The handcrafted touch of artisan skill creates variations in color, size and design. If buying two of the same item, slight differences should be expected. Note: Color discrepancies may occur between this product and your computer screen.

The baskets are NOT 18", it is 15", are NOT of good quality, the weaving on the top right side was coming apart. I had to weave and sew it back together. I would have sent it back but it was to late; because I needed the basket for a Xmas gift.
This tote is very well made and beautiful. It's generous size makes it great for shopping as it will hold a lot of items.it saves you from having to have a bunch of plastic bags.
I bought this in the natural color and was not disappointed. It's my favorite bag for books, blankets and electronics and fits nicely next to my couch.
