Story Behind the Art:

• This rug is handmade by local weavers in the Varanasi region of India, who painstakingly perform the entire process of shearing, washing, dyeing and weaving to create a rug that is virtually identical in design, workmanship, and authenticity as the originals. Due to the handmade nature of the rugs, the size may vary from the advertised size by up to 4 inches. For over 10 years, Herat Oriental has been providing beautiful, authentic, handmade rugs to Worldstock, creating jobs for over 2,000 local village weavers in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. The majority of the weavers are women who would not have had the opportunity to work otherwise. The community also thrives from rug weaving as the local farmers benefit from wool sales, and local artisans create natural and vegetable dyes for the weavers to use in their designs.
