This tool just feels right in my hand! It feels sturdy and well-made. Not only is it razor-sharp when cutting, but the thumb release on the side makes it so easy to lock when pausing or finished cutting. Great product!
I've gardened and landscaped for years. And there have been numerous times when reaching with hand pruners was insufficient, and using a pole-pruner was overkill - if not just plain awkward. This tool is good for that middle ground between hand pruning and pole-pruning (I can prune close to 6' from my body with this tool). Great for cutting new (green) growth... forsythia, holly trees, yew bushes, rose bushes, etc... NOT good for dead wood or older/harder materials - especially anything thicker than a pencil's diameter. Doesn't sound like much, but it really can save time - trying to cut several dozen out-of-reach "whiskers" on a bush with this tool takes 2-3 minutes...with a pole pruner, much longer. And, it holds onto the severed twig until you release your grip (no more plucking dead clippings out of your hedge weeks after you've pruned). Easy to operate with one hand or two. Again, this tool is for light-duty work. Not nearly as strong as hand-pruners or pole-pruners, and probably will break if you force it. But, good for taking care of new growth, will possibly keep you off of ladders, and may prevent you from having to lean into a thorny shrub to make that one last cut.
When I first saw, ( as described ), it was Aluminum - thought weeds are harder than Aluminum. Not so! Been using for dandelions & other odd weeds, just fine. It gets down a good 6" of the root, at least. Also, I am not sure how they designed it, but to "melt" the plastic handle (feels abit like rubber) onto the aluminum, is what makes it work so well. I am hoping this tool is around my garden for years to come.
