Hand Knotted Beige Persian Wool & Silk Traditional Oriental Area Rug - 13' 1'' x 20'
Exceptional piece! One of the best rugs that we have ever curated for our one-of-a-kind Persian rug collection. It would not be a lie to say that they don’t make rugs like these anymore. With a high 300 kpsi, this rug reflects the time-honored weaving tradition of the region with high quality craftsmanship that have made Tabriz rugs so popular across the ages. An heirloom you can bequeath to your posterity. The pile is a combination of high-quality wool and silk. The natural wool adds not only years to the rug, but also provides dirt-repellent qualities and thermal insulation. The silk, on the other hand, provides a unique shine to the rug which seems to transform when viewed from different angles. The rug features the quintessential Mahi pattern with a simple medallion pattern that starts at the center of the rug and grows outwards. This part represents the concentric circles formed by dropping a pebble into a still pond.
Story Behind the Art:
Undoubtedly, Mahi Tabreeze rugs hold an esteemed status as the most sought-after and revered among traditional Tabreeze rug enthusiasts. These exquisite pieces can be deconstructed into three distinctive elements, each bearing its own captivating tale. Firstly, the overarching motif unfurls as a graceful medallion pattern, originating at the rug's core and extending outward, reminiscent of the concentric circles formed by a pebble's descent into a tranquil pond. Secondly, the intricate field design of Mahi Tabreeze showcases a traditional Herati, or "fish," pattern, characterized by a diamond shape adorned with four opposing oak leaves. Progressing from these leaves, the design replicates itself, with the leaves mirroring around a delicate flower, symbolizing a serene tableau of a fisherman in his boat and two fish elegantly circling the moon's reflection. Lastly, the third facet of the design resides in the border, which, while exhibiting some diversity among Mahi Tabreeze rugs, predominantly incorporates the Sammovar pattern, often referred to as the "Turtle and Crab" border. This border features expansive floral motifs that intriguingly resemble the graceful swim of a sea turtle and the formidable claws of a crab, infusing these exceptional works of art with a distinctive and evocative charm.
