Story Behind the Art:
Over 125 indigenous Maya artisans from the Central Highlands of Guatemala, in the towns of Comalapa and Tecpan, practice traditional weaving techniques to create their modern handicrafts. Through the sales of their handmade products, artisans are able to make a living to improve their lives, the lives of their families, and their communities. The artisans' skills allow them to earn a fair wage for their work as well as other benefits such as literacy programs for themselves and their daughters, microcredit loans, and eye exams.
