Pretty typical of put-it-together-yourself furniture, with some problem areas. Watch the assembly videos at http://www.youtube.com/user/EpicFurnishings, as they are very helpful. The original instructions I received had a significant misprint in them, which was corrected on a second sheet that was packaged on the outside of the box, so watch for that. Epic Furnishings needs to go back and finish the last instruction video, as it cuts off before assembly is complete. Problems: 1) As noted in other reviews, putting in the C-shaped hook that links the back to the seat might be a problem. Watch the manufacturers assembly videos on YouTube to see the best way to do it. If it wont go in, try putting each end of the hook into each metal loop in the back and the seat, to see if one end of the hook is the problem. The hook I received is a little bent on the end with the hole in it, and wont go into either loop. Ive emailed Epic Furnishings asking for a new one and have not heard back from them, despite their claim of 24-hour response time. I think the hook is pretty important to the whole assembly, as it will keep the back and seat from separating in the middle. I may have to fabricate something to take its place if the manufacturer doesnt send me a replacement. 2) The other difficult assembly point is putting on the mattress retainers. The ones I received needed to have the ends bent in toward each other a bit, and that was VERY hard to do. Also, they did not go through the frame far enough to expose enough of the thread ends to hold the washer, lock-washer, and nut (I couldnt get the nut started on the threads). I fixed this by first putting on just the nuts and tightening them until the mattress retainer was pulled down farther into the frame, then taking the nuts off and putting all the hardware on. Be careful doing this, as it seems like you could pull the mattress retainers in too far and damage the frame. After all that, Im now concerned that the mattress retainers will wear holes in my sheets and the mattress cover when the futon is used for a bed, so I might take the retainers off entirely. 3) The flip-top armrest lids need to be put on with tiny screws, which come with the hardware, but there are no instructions anywhere about using the screws or putting the lids on, and this assembly step takes a bit more care than the others, as there are no pilot holes to guide you! 4) The grid that supports the mattress appears to have a weak spot where the edges are folded for shipment, and the grids may separate over time at that point. This is especially important if you are using the futon as a mattress and a couch. The first time I tried to move things into a couch configuration with the mattress on the frame, the hinge point separated a bit and Im afraid it will soon break there. Overall, Im pleased with the looks of the frame. Hope it doesnt fall apart.
