This was a gift for my granddaughter. She loves it!! You can't always tell what things are really going to look like in a picture, this bed was just as pretty as what was in the picture.

We like the bed. It's sturdy and looks like solid wood. Not sure, though. The color is darker than the picture shows. I like the redish color in the picture better. But it's OK.

We recently moved, and were looking for an inexpensive, yet nice looking bed for an extra guest bedroom. This is an attractive set, but I have to give it 3 stars because the foundational crossframe support is not very sturdy.

  • Nice!

Good quality and easy to assemble. It DOES need a box spring and does not work well without one compared to most platform beds. Good quality.

After a week of researching beds the America Mayday II Paneled Cherry Sleigh Bed was the choice for me. Love the deep rich color of the cherry. The head and footboards are smaller in bulk which is exactly what I was looking for. In addition, I liked the profile of the bed sits higher up from the floor because I no longer wanted to use a bed skirt. The only disappointment was the back of the headboard was not finished and had chalk-like dusty handprints all over it. Expect to spend a couple of hours assembling the bed (there was two (-2) of us). Although it comes with an Allen-wrench, it could have been better thought out. My husband kept saying (11-times actually), what's wrong with using a Phillips' Head Screw? hahaha! Other reviews stated they were shorted the -5 bed slats so, I purchased the PostureLoft Low Profile 4-inch platform. Glad I did, after using a 16" Stearns and Foster mattress and box spring this was perfect for my existing television stand.

  • Great bed frame

This bed frame is sturdy and made well. But only 5slats were provided so you definitely need a low profile box spring of some sort.

Questions & Answers

  • Q:

"Is the color of the bed Brown Cherry or red cherry"

    • A:

The America Mayday II Paneled Cherry Sleigh Bed is a deep rich cherry- brown color. Very eye appealing.

  • Q:

"Does this work without a box spring if you buy a mattress set that has a foundation? Looking at a Sealy queen mattress that has either a 5" or 9" foundation. Help!"

    • A:

Yes. I set mine up without a box spring, with a memory foam mattress (also from Overstock.com). Nice bed. Great value.

    • A:

This item does require a box spring as there are not enough slats to support a standard mattress.

    • A:

I bought this bed for my granddaughter. I also purchased mattress and box springs. They fit perfectly, I am very glad I purchased both.

    • A:

You need a box spring, get a short one, though. Either that or you will need to buy additional slats because those they provide will be inadequate for properly supporting a mattress without a box spring.

    • A:

      You need a box spring.

    • A:

Yes. That is what we did.

"What is the height of the bed in back and front - Thanks"

    • A:

The headboard is 47.5 inches high. The footboard is 29 inches high.

    • A:

The back is 47" and the foot of the bed is 26.25", both measured at the top of the legs.

  • Q:

"How high is the underside of the bed? I want to know if I can fit storage underneath. Thanks! "

    • A:

I have the Cal King size bed frame. The height from the side to the ground is 8.5"; in my case, the space between the additional interior supporting legs is about 22" and the width is 72".

    • A:

It is about 12 inches from the floor. Easy to slide a under the bed storage container.

    • A:

Outer frame is 8 1/2 inches from floor; we added extra planks inside the frame and screwed them into inside frame to support the king mattress and box spring. That helped a lot.

  • Q:

"Does this frame work with adjustable bed?"

    • A:

I wouldn't try it. The frame is beautiful, but I don't think it's solid enough for an adjustable bed.

    • A:

All adjustable beds are made to fit Do be careful that there is clearance for the headboard.

how much this bed weight tell me

  • Q:

"What kind of wood is it made our of ?"

    • A:

The bed is made of solid wood and veneers.

    • A:

The bed is made of pine. Most items this large are made of pine unless otherwise specified. All other wood is slow growing and much more expensive. PS - Pine is a "soft wood" meaning it is actually much softer than most. You can easily dent it or run a line through it with your fingernail. The polyurethane coating helps mitigate this problem, but not completely.

  • Q:

"I notice that the dimensions for the queen size and the king size are the same? 88.38 seems very long for a queen?"

    • A:

Here are the approximate dimension for both the queen and king size. Their length are approximately the same. We have verified this with the manufacturer.

  • Q:

"what is height from floor to frame? How much height will be added if I use a box spring and mattress?"

Have an Answer? Be the first to answer this question!
  • Q:

"does it need a box spring to work in good proportion/appearance in height between headboard and top of mattress/foam ? any product measurements available for reference....thank you."

    • A:

I have a 9" box spring and a 15" mattress which brings the top of the mattress to about 34" off the floor. This is quite high and took me some getting used to, but I have found the frame to be consistent height from the floor as compared to the 2 other frames we have in the house which are much older. If you are concerned about the height, you may want to consider getting a lower-profile mattress and spring. I cannot see using the frame without a box spring unless you modified the bed frame by adding slats (similar to the way Ikea has designed their frames). The frame itself is sturdy and and absolute bargain at this pricepoint. I LOVE the look and function of it.

    • A:

I don't have a boxspring and it seems fine. If you get one, though, get the half-height type or the mattress will be too high. I think I got two pieces of plywood to put over the slats - 2 crosswise pieces make it easier to maneuver. When making the bed, I find myself missing the box spring only because I would normally tuck the sheet under the mattress and over the box spring. So now the sheet goes between the mattress and the plywood sheets that hold it up.

    • A:

I omitted the box spring, but added 1x4" wood slats. I added several actually as it only comes with 3 slats as a 1x2". Otherwise a box spring is necessary without added more slats. I stuck some 2x2" pieces as support under the slats I added and my matress had been fine. I have a memory foam 10" matress, but does seem a little low to the ground but I got used to it. It ended up being better for my small children to get up on my bed when needed.

  • Q:

"The desc says this bed is 47.25 inches high. I assume this is the height of the headboard. May I know how high is this bed from floor ?. In other words , what is the gap between the floor and the bed frame?"

    • A:

It depends if u use box spring and mattress or just the mattress. I have the box spring and mattress and it is quite high i say a good 2 feet off the ground. I feel like an elf on the shelf lol. Because it is so high but then again I'm only 4ft 10. I would assume if u just use the mattress it would not be that high off the floor. It looks beautiful for the price and I absolutely love it. Do not hesitate to buy.

  • Q:

"Are boxsprings required, or can it just be the mattress?"

    • A:

You will need a box spring with this bed.

  • Q:

"trying to find out what comes and what does not come with this bed I want to purchase. I have already ordered the full size mattress but what else do I have to have? It says matching case goods available but not included. What are they? Smooth wood finish available in black but sold separate? what are those and do I need those? What I am looking at is a headboard a foot board and the stuff in between to put a full size mattress over it. Is this what I get when I purchase this bed and purchase the full size mattress separate? ITEM# 18496697"

    • A:

This is only the bed and slat set. You will only need a mattress. I hope this helps.

  • Q:

"Can you use a box spring to give the bed some height?"

    • A:

This item can be used with a box spring as well.

  • Q:

"I have a queen bed but do not see that as an option. Is full the same as a queen? If this a good quality wood?"

    • A:

Unfortunately, we are out of stock with the queen size. We hope to restock the queen if it becomes availalbe again. Please check back with us periodically.

  • Q:

"We have a cal-king sleep number mattress. Would that work in this bed?"

    • A:

If the sleep number mattress is a standard cal-king size mattress, it should fit.

  • Q:

"Does this bed require a box springs? Picture looks like it is mattress only"

    • A:

This includes a slat kit so you do not need a box spring.
