Now that we have this kettle I can't believe that I used a regular stove top tea kettle for years. Not only is it sleek in appearance, but it is quite efficient. Love that you can heat waters to accommodate the type of tea you are brewing. Although other reviews indicated not being able to hear the sound signaling that heating is complete, we don't seem to have a problem at all.
It's nice electric kettle if you are concerned about heating water in plastic. I always lift the top when pouring so that water never touches the plastic parts. I read somewhere that the plastic is bpa free. The color maroon is truly dark brownish matte red and will not match red appliances :(
I've had this for about a month now, and use it multiple times a day. So far, everything's worked exactly as it ought. Heating time isn't exactly instant, but considering that a full pot on this model is 1.7L (a little under 2 quarts), I'm not quibbling on the handful of minutes it takes. And the adjustable temperature is a boon to tea drinkers! I've not had a bitter cup of darjeeling, since. As for other aspects, yes, the metal sides of the pot do get hot, but the handle does not. The buttons might take a little getting used to, if you're used to a plug-and-go kettle, but the temperature-setting buttons are straightforward, and helpfully suggest what kinds of tea or coffee they're best for, so you don't have to guess. The default setting is whatever you used last. One quirk: Be aware that the lid's "open" button, on the top of the handle, is a soft-release...that's to say, you press down on the button and the lid opens AS YOU LIFT YOUR FINGER, not when you press down. That's probably a safety feature, but it did confuse my housemate once or twice.
