I would highly recommend this Generator. It stars easy, both in gas and propane. Runs about 10 hrs on propane and 4 to 5 hrs on gasoline. Ran 2 refrig,a freezer a air conditioner,3 fans, cell phones and a 60 inch tv no problem. But make sure all lines are tight and check to see that the vibration doesn't cut the hose's,I'm replace them with good quality hoses. Excellent product!!!

After a bad start trying to get a key to start it, it is a good generator. Some things are not in the manual that you need to know.

  • OK Generator
    Verified Purchase

This Generator is OK but a bit underpowered than I had expected. I like the ability to use LP gas instead of Gasoline. Cuts out when the 120/240 volt is selected. Only seems to work on 120 Volt selection.

  • Great affordable generator

Ordered this Generator from Overstock and was delivered instantly. Unfortunately it was a bit damaged, pretty obviously during transport. Contacted Overstock and asked for replacement parts as the impacted parts could be easily replaced. Overstock bent backwards and went above & beyond with their customer service. Instead of sending the few cheap replacement parts they apologized and sent an entire new generator which also arrived quickly. The Overstock CSRs were very polite and helpful sorting things out via chat and email. It didn’t need a single phone call. Some minimal assembly is needed to put the wheel kit on the generator - instructions and the tools provided are sufficient to get this done. I ordered this to be prepared for the next “Sandy”. I gave it a dry run, hooking up my the heating system of a single 1 family house and the fridge. The generator took these 2 without a blink, no increase in RPMs 3500Watts are plenty. Tried it on a propane tank. It started instantly with the electric starter making it easy to use. Just following the instruction for the first time start, anyone should be able to handle it. While Overstock is the seller, the phone number for potential troubleshooting that’s listed in the manual leads to Maxtools which gives some extra peace of mind, that this product is backed by a company who answers the phone and has knowledgeable people regarding the product. In the back of the manual is a spare parts list. As for the price, you could get the same Watts for a bit less money, but the electric starter, included wheel kit, and the fact that this is a hybrid and runs on gasoline or propane is in my eyes well worth every penny. I would buy it again in a heartbeat through Overstock, especially after the excellent custome service experience.

the bad =I ordered this months ago and two weeks after the order, not hearing anything, emailed Overstock only to find out they did not have any. Guess they were never going to say anything. They refunded my money. Unfortunately, I had passed up buying elsewhere and now could not get one. In the end I was given 10% off after 5/6 emails with cutomer service uppers. Not a bad deal, but could have used it during the time I did not have it, and worst of all I could not understand how an "online" business could not track stock better. It came in about a week, UPS ground. Arrived on a wet day and had to sit outside. That proved not to be a prob though. However, somewhere along the line the box had picked up a crushed/ripped corner and there was different tape holding it closed; not a good sign. I assembled the unit as per instructions - just wheels, handles and removing some bracing. Hooked the battery to a charger for an hour, added oil and attached the line to my BBQ propane tank. It fired up on the second crank and ran smooth and quiet. Plugged in a shop vac and it worked fine. I was pretty pleased. A closer look though revealed that apparently the unit had been dropped on its end = the crushed box. Since it just has some soft 1/2" foam surrounding it the frame also had a serious dent to one end and the motor plate was dented. Not biggies - but, the air filter housing was also pushed back, collapsing the steel housing around where it fits to the carb and cracking the inner and outer plastic housing and bending the steel support on the bottom. Luckily no damage to the carb. I did my best to straighten out the housing, but either everything was shifted somewhat, or poorly designed, because there is no way to simply unhook the filter casing and remove to get to the filters for cleaning. It is right up against the steel frame. Since I am not going to use this except for emergency use it should not be a big prob - wont require many cleanings. Better packaging could prevent this though - and of course the idiots who handle this stuff. It is not something that can be easily repacked to send back, so I will keep it. I have emailed manuf to see if they will send the two parts that were broken, but I can't get them on in one piece anyway. Overall quality is Ok...typical import, nuts and bolts not real tight, cheap metal quality etc. But, for light use it fits the bill and the price was right. I chose this model due its ability to run on clean propane - leaves no residue in the carb or tank like gas, but can still run on gas if needed. I saw a Generac the other day in a store, they have an all propane model, quality is way ahead of this = much more solid visibly heavier parts, better powder coating on the frame. But, if you are going to use rarely/emergent than this should do the trick and this is a better price than direct from Duromax.

Had a hard time getting it to start the first time using propane. Turns out I had to increase air intake b removing the air cleaner. As soon as I did, it started right up. once it warms up, you can put the air cleaner back on. I like this because of the propane. Gas turns bad in a few months, but propane is propane for ever. Typically, people go to use a generator, and the gas has turned so it needs to be drained and cleaned. The propane prevents that because propane does not break down. keep the until clean, and dry and it should start every time. I am able to place this in the bed of my truck and use my RV propane bottles to run the unit. I've had many people ask about this generator because of the propane. I don't intend to use gas except for a last resort.

  • Works Great, nice to have options

Purchased this after Sandy last year, as I had burned out my previous generator. This worked very well...but a few issues to look out for. 1 - I had this set up and ready to go but never tried it out before the recent ice storms that knocked out power across this region for a few days. My electronic start didn't work. Now I have to figure out if the battery is dead or if there is another issue. Good news, always started by the 3rd pull on the propane (and I am female and no powerhouse by any means). 2 - Because it was so cold, the propane tanks iced over and the generator had issues running through the full tank. During the day, I could get about 8 hours use on the 20lb propane tank, probably running about 50% load, but at night when it was very cold, i was getting 4 hours at best before the genny had issues sucking fuel out of the tank. I would assume spring, summer or fall use would be much better. Out of desperation day one I had to 'exchange' 2 tanks that certainly had a decent amount gas left in them, because I couldn't figure out what was going on. I figured it out by the 2nd day when we finally got power, and was able to get the tanks topped off rather than wasting money on an exchange. Next go around I'm going to need to figure out how to keep the tanks warm so the gas is better able to get to the genny in the cold.

Questions & Answers

  • Q:

"Does this have a stable power supply or does it surge . Does it have an "automatic Voltage Regulator"? (AVR) or similar ? Can I safely use it for a computer ? Also, does it come with the hose/regulator needed to run on propane ? Thanks in advance !"

    • A:

Yes tom No surge from my unit. As far as the all the other questions, Yes!! We used our generator extensively this last winter when we were traveling in the southwest and used the computer daily to check weather and to Reserve locations etc. The unit comes equipped with what is needed to run on propane and is very efficient.

  • Q:

"I would like to hook up my boiler, refrigerator, freezer, stove and a room to a generator; can this unit handle all these? SW"

    • A:

Hello SWD, we recommend looking up each appliance by model and taking note of the starting wattage and the running wattage. To give you an example, an average Fridge, Television, and Furnace Fan have a combined starting wattage of 4550 watts and a running wattage usage of 2000 watts. Once you have calculated your energy needs, you can decide whether this generator is sufficient for your needs. The DuroMax Duel Fuel 4,400 Watt Hybrid Propane/ Gasoline Portable Generator has a max output of 4400 watts with two 120-Volt 20A 3-prong outlets(standard household plug). I hope this info helps. Thanks for shopping with us!

  • Q:

"Does this come with the hose and regulator for propane."

    • A:

Hello fra2181203, no, those items are not included. Thank you for shopping with us!

    • A:

Mine did come with the hose and regulator for propane. It even states that it has the long flexible line for easy hookup, so I am not sure why customer care is telling you differently. I have test run the unit on propane only since receiving my generator and I am looking to install a natural gas conversion on it soon.

    • A:

Propane and natural gas have proven to be safer than gasoline

  • Q:

"what is a transfer switch? it it connected to your breaker box"

    • A:

Transfer switch to connect the generator to the main breaker panel house. Recommend this highly - it is far better than running cords all over the place, or back-feeding the main panel, which is illegal and very dangerous for linesman working on the utility company's lines.
