take your time with this one. it arrives in 3 heavy boxes. the instructions and hardware bags are in box 2 of 3. the hardware and parts are all numbered and labeled which makes following the instructions a bit easier. follow the instructions- put everything together in the order they tell you. take your time and give yourself at least 2-3 hours at a leisurely pace. the dresser was going to be housed on the 2nd floor bedroom- so i unpacked all the parts and carried them up before installing. the mdf parts are good quality and the finished product is very sturdy and does not look or feel like an "assembly required" piece of furniture. i laid out all the parts once i understood the sequence. everything went together nicely. the trickier part of this project is understanding the drawer sliders. they come assembled in box "h" in pairs. you will want to remove one at a time and carefully disengage the slider extension placing it back in a bag for later use. (advice: the drawer tracks are well lubricated and a little sticky- disengage and handle with care. i placed in a spare bag until step requiring use.) once that is done and the sliders are installed- (advice: if you are doing the assembly solo- work close to a wall to hold side "c" in place while you attach "b","g","h","f" and "e". it isn't as bad with a little support.) make sure to install all the screws. (advice: if you are good with a drill- use it! save yourself an hour and wrist pain! be careful not to over tighten or the smaller screws may break. if you are not confident in your drilling skills- stick to a screwdriver but add more time.) when the cabinet is assembled, the top goes on fairly smoothly. the next time consuming part is putting all the drawers together. again- lay out your parts so that you can work efficiently. overall- i am really happy with the purchase and it is nothing like other "assembly required" products. event the packaging and parts are superior. i would highly recommend.
I ordered this item about a month ago - and set it up within 48 hours thereafter. I believe the look and design of the drawers is excellent, but I found it very difficult to set-up! There are instructions included with a lot of visuals - but the images are hard to follow. Imagine Ikea instruction and then take the quality of the images down a few notches. It wasn't pleasant at all. After a little bit of guesswork and a lot of luck, I finally had it together after about 2 hours (I set it up solo.) It has held up well over the last month or so, which I think speaks to the quality (considering the price.) I don't regret the purchase, but I will definitely rethink purchasing unassembled furniture through Overstock again!
I bought two of these cabinets because they are the perfect height to go on either side of my chesterfield sofa. When they arrived the packaging did not look too beat up, and the first cabinet I removed from the packaging was everything I hoped for, solid, all wood, rustic cabinet at a good price. I was totally ecstatic. When I removed the packaging from the second cabinet I was a little let down to see that it had a splintering crack in the top that starts in the back left corner and goes 3/4 of the way across. Not worth sending back, so I will be attempting to fix with wood glue. One of those risks you take when ordering online. Would still recommend product as the first cabinet was perfect. These cabinets are rustic so while the design for both is the same the wood grain/knots are different on each one. I like the difference, but its not for everyone.
I decided to spend some extra $$$ on my dresser, hoping it wouldn't be flimsy - and fortunately it paid off! Pros: --Simple to assemble solo, not complicated, didn't need glue or extra supplies. --Super sturdy - all the pieces fit together perfectly and all the holes were drilled in the right places. --Drawers glide really smoothly - 2 weeks and no sticking problems. --Exposed surfaces are REALLY smooth & the finish is even. --Shipped with no damage whatsoever! Cons: --Took me 4-5 hours to build & I was sore by the end - and I had a power drill. If you don't, I strongly recommend a friend. --Assemble on carpet or blankets or you WILL scratch a piece of this dresser. :( --It's HEAVY - because it's solid wood - not really a "con" but be prepared!
