I have owned this piece for 7 years now and it is still as beautiful as the day I put it together. Its extremely sturdy, and the white finish never fades. If it gets dirty or dusty a damp cloth will clean it up right away. It has held up nicely to everyday ware and tare. Gliders still work as well as the day I purchased this item. Top has not chipped or worn at all over the past 7 years of me having jewelry and perfume and such on top all the time.
Now, after two days of assembling, I can sing the praises of how beautiful this dresser is, and how wonderfully deep the drawers are. Oh! And their reinforced! Which is something you don’t usually find on these type of build it yourselves. But it took two days to do it! The steps were very easy to follow. I do wish that the packages of screws were labeled, because most times I would just guess at the one they were asking for me to use. But there are A LOT of steps hence, the two days.
Quality: Personally I find the quality of this piece to be adequate. It isn't a solid wood dresser that will last a lifetime, but you shouldn't expect that for $250. I didn't find it to wobble on the carpet and it doesn't seem as if it will tip.
However, as far as quality, the only thing I was disappointed with was the fact it had a cardboard backing.
Assembly: I personally did not have a hard time at all putting this piece together. I am a 24 y/o female and assembled the whole thing by myself with a battery operated screwdriver with no problem at all. The instructions were very clear and easy to follow.
I did have an issue with missing some screws but contacted the manufacturer (not overstock) and they were replaced promptly with no hassle at all.
Looks: You see the photo. It looks just that good in my room. It goes very nicely and is very elegant. It is a little smaller than I would have expected but still a decent size.
Overall this is a good deal in my opinion. If you are looking for an heirloom then you are going to need to look elsewhere. But if you are looking for a nice dresser to start out with this will be a nice, new, and fairly inexpensive piece to do just that.
This dresser looks just as beautiful as it does in the picture. All of my other furniture is West Elm, and my other dresser costs three times the amount of this one, but this dresser holds it own and looks just as expensive and quality as my other furniture. The dresser is quite heavy and sturdy. However, when the dresser arrived it had a few minor dings in the side wood panels. It also was missing a screw for the base. The thing that is the biggest let down is the tracks are not very smooth. When closing the drawers it gets stuck at the back and you have to push the drawer harder.
Pros: Its looks beautiful, is great quality, and came with extra screw and materials (except the one bottom screw I mentioned).
Cons: Minor dings from shipping and the tracks are not that smooth.
Looks great, but took longer to put together than estimated. Worth the effort. Broke a ball bearing unit during installation, but overstock replaced quickly. Everything works smoothly and dresser looks wonderful in blue and white bedroom
Some other reviews gave this a low rating due to the fact that is was difficult to assemble--not due to quality. If you take your time and read each step, you'll be fine. Did it take a while to get it all together? Yes. Was it worth the effort? YES! This is a great-looking piece! Buy it! If you can read instructions, you can assemble this...
I assembled this drawer chest after assembling the Night Stand and boy knowing what to expect after going through the night stand process is a plus! The install is exactly the same as the night stand counterpart but with 4 drawers instead of 2. I've assembled furniture's for as long as I remember and I assemble them in record speed. This furniture took me 2 hours WITH a power drill! Without a power drill you're expecting at least 3 hours for the seasoned assembler. More for newbs. Like the Night Stand the instructions are INACCURATE. Be mindful when putting the drawer sliding rails onto the side of the drawer pieces 1 and 2. What the instructions tell you to do in Step 5 is incorrect. Instead SWAP out the sliding rails from piece 1 to 2 and vice versa. If you follow the instructions you will end up with UPSIDE DOWN sliding rails meaning you will have no functional drawers or if you try to install the drawers into the incorrectly installed rails you can only have TWO drawers in odd positions exactly like reviewer Kariee Bs photos. I was able to spot this out quickly and disassemble the pieces just right before the wood glue was setting in! If the wood glue set in before you can take the pieces apart you are SCREWED and I recommend calling the manufacturer for replacement parts due to inaccurate instructions on their part. The funny thing is the exact incorrect instructions regarding the sliding rails were provided for the Night Stand. Overall its a gorgeous looking furniture. CHEAP materials for sure but overall presentation is not bad. 4 stars.
I'm a nerd who enjoys assembling items and this was a blast. Instructions are relatively easy to follow with plenty of spare parts. Most difficult part was screwing the runners to the drawer itself as there are no guide holes.
This is listed as for a child's room, but I bought it for the master bedroom and it is perfect. It has deep drawers that pull in and out on rollers, which makes them move very smoothly. The roller tracks were already installed (yea). Assembly was very easy with just a screwdriver and hammer (they say you don't need these, but you do). Very sturdy and I am very pleased.
If you (or your partner) is mechanically inclined at all, this dresser is a cinch to put together. And, when it's done, it looks really good. The quality of the wood is pretty good, but it is partical board. It does look very nice though.
Very nice very easy to put together I'd had hired a handyman to put together the other pieces but did this on my own and I'm 72 years old I did it a little better than he did because I was more careful on that front piece at the bottom he put it in upside down. Thanks to Someone that posted A gap at the bottom I was more careful one of the dowels was a little longer and pushing it out so I had to work to make sure there was no gap at the very bottom. Take your time and read directions they are very easy take a break The handyman did my nightstand and put the very bottom piece in upside down so there was a gap and I had to use glue from the bed on the dowel and shove it together and sit on it. And tighten up the bottom screws
I was really hesitant to buy this based on other reviews, but I bravely went for it because of its price and specific dimensions. I live alone and I'm not incredibly handy, so I was a little intimidated by the size of the box coupled with the bad reviews on here. Fortunately it was delivered to my apartment door (it's heavy). I assembled it with ease over the weekend. I took my time and read the instructions twice. It was really not that big a deal, and it doesn't feel flimsy like other reviewers have written. Seems like a fine value dresser to me.
I've purchased and assembled other furniture on Overstock in the past, so I decided to come here to buy a new dresser. I chose this dresser because of the look and style, and it really does look great with my other furniture. Looks just like the photo on this site, except I don't think it's as reddish-toned as in the picture. Love the drawer handles, they look expensive. However, there's a few issues I had to deal with:
- One of the legs was damaged, the wood was split along one of its sides. Contacted Customer Service and they were great, I received a replacement three days later (they sent me 4 new legs even though I only needed 1).
- You have to attach all the drawer glides yourself, which is fine, but the dresser sides and partition do not have adequate pre-drilled holes, just markings for the holes. I tried to get by with just my small power screwdriver, but some of the screws ended up not being completely flush with the glides; if they are not flush, the drawers will not slide smoothly. I ended up borrowing a better drill with drill bit from a friend and went back to drill new holes in a few spots. A drill also ended up being necessary to drill holes on the back of the dresser along the bottom when attaching the back plywood. Bottom line is, make sure you have a drill when putting this together!!
- There's a typo in the Parts List -- it says there are 2 partition pieces, but the dresser only needs 1, and only includes 1.
Overall, I'm still happy with the dresser since it's a lot cheaper than what you'd pay at other furniture stores. Just plan to set aside some time to put this together.
This is a beautiful chest of drawers once assembled. High quality, heavy wood pieces. Arrived in great condition with no missing parts. I highly recommend it IF you are good at assembling furniture! I have quite a bit of experience and I found this item harder than average to assemble. With the help of a cordless screwdriver my total unpacking and assembly time was four hours! The instructions are pictures only, nothing written. A few basic written instructions would have been helpful. I found it difficult at times to determine the placement of certain pieces, ie which side goes up. Good value if you have two people to assemble or lots of time to work on it.
I've bought several pieces of furniture that I needed to assemble, so this isn't my first. I was really happy with the ease of assembly and the finished product. This is a really solid piece of furniture and extremely well made. The drawers fit perfectly into the chest, no gaps to be found at all. And each drawer slides easily on its runner. Despite what the previous reviewer said, I have not had any problems with items spilling over. The drawers are very wide and deep and contain all of my items nicely. Also, the inside of each drawer is sanded to a very smooth finish, so there is no need to worry about snags on delicate clothing. I would not only recommend purchasing this piece, I would be happy to give it as a gift to someone, it's that nice! And the price is so low, it's totally worth it.
It was not too hard to put together, but some parts are flimsy (like the back, and the drawer bottoms are corrogated cardboard). It looks good, but is not all one tone in person (some looks more cherry, some looks more like dark wood). For the price, and the fact that it's (mostly) solid wood, I would recommend it.
I bought two of these because i like the nice simple style of them. They look great in both rooms. Only con is they took FOREVER to put together, I mean 4 hours each...at least. It definitely a two person job, don't attempt to assemble by yourself.
I read other reviews before deciding to purchase this item and some people complained about the assembly process. I am fairly handy, took my time and found the dresser to be fairly simple and straight forward. I like the design and the drawer slides are pretty rugged. It was surprising to find a dresser at this price point where all the drawers lined up so evenly. I wish the drawers where a few inches deeper.
The three boxes were delivered exactly when stated. The product was well packed and protected. Even the boxes were banged up and punctured in transit, the dresser arrived in perfect condition.
After seeing this dresser in our home, my wife liked it so much she asked me to order a second one. We were disappointed to find that it is sold out. We also looked for a matching chest but it isn't offered.
Extremely happy with this set (I bought the nightstand and 6-drawer Dresser). Assembly for the nightstand was super easy. The dresser was harder - only because it is a much larger piece. I highly recommend get assistance. You'll need two people to put together the outer dresser cabinet. Assembling the drawers can be done by one person. Once assembled - these pieces are pretty sturdy. I used to buy **** furniture - and those feel flimsy and delicate once put together. These have nice weight and bulk to them. I'm not sure why other reviewers have indicated that the color and quality of the paint finish is so different from the pictures. The front of the drawers is a nice ash brown. And the white is exactly what the description says - Butter White. A nice off white that just happens to match my wall paint perfectly. And the white is applied completely solid and uniform throughout the pieces. Not a thin wash at all like indicated by the one reviewer. Here's a cool option I discovered: leave the legs off and just have the units sit flush with the floor; giving the set a very modern Japanese influenced look. Or attach the legs for a more mid-century look. Highly recommended.
This dresser is such a beauty. The gray coloring is gorgeous and I love the roll out drawers. Every piece of this dresser has to be put together. I saved some time and aggravation by hiring someone to put it together, based on the advice of the previous reviewer. It took about 3 hours and was well worth the extra money.
This dresser looks even better in person! It's solid wood, has dove-tailed joints and is quite heavy. Quite the buy for a dresser! It's going into my 17 yr old son's room as he's outgrown his boyhood furniture. I cannot wait to get another and pair them side-by side. I forsee many, many years of dependable usage from this Ink + Ivy line. Thanks Overstock!
I am very happy with my purchase! This dresser is well made, with logical instructions, quality materials, great value. It does take some time to build with all the drawers (2.5 hours). But the price plus the time to build still makes it an excellent value.
I bought this set based on the numerous positive reviews, the great price and how attractive it looked on line. I was not disappointed. I bought both the 6-drawer and 4-drawer Vilas dressers. I love them both! I assembled the 6-drawer first which took me a long time. On day two, I was able to assemble the 4-drawer much faster. Please take the advice of the other reviewers and get yourself a power drill (screwdriver). It will be an absolute bear if you don't have one. Also, take your time with the instructions. Observe the drawings carefully.
Both dressers turned out beautiful but there were a couple snags along the way with the 4-drawer that I hadn't encountered with the 6-drawer. There was a cosmetic flaw on one of the pieces that I didn't discover until nearly halfway assembled. I called customer service and they offered to send me a replacement piece. I dreaded the idea of taking it apart and waiting for a replacement part so I negotiated a discount instead. Customer service was friendly and very accommodating. I ran into another snag when I was putting the drawer pulls on. One of the bolts threads was messed up and it was slightly bent. Instead of calling customer service again I just went to my neighborhood hardware store and got a new metric bolt for about ¢. Easy fix. Despite a couple snags, I am very pleased with the dressers and Overstock's customer service. I would recommend this product and buying through this company.
This chest is absolutely beautiful and real, solid wood. It is rare to find a piece a furniture that isn't MDF these days. Thank you for a genuine product. I got the mahogany option. It does have quite a red tone, but it goes well in my room. I definitely would purchase again!
Unless you are the son or daughter of Einstein and Mother Theresa, and earned a PhD in cryptography, expect to spend days on end pulling your hair out and cursing the heavens for the mess you have gotten yourself into. So difficult to put together even though I am usually decent at assembling furniture. Otherwise, beautiful dresser.
I recently pursched this dresser and overall I am pleased. I really enjoy the dark chocolate color. I was a little upset that there wasn't more solid wood in it however the venirs look appealing and the desgn is sturdy for the most part. There are a couple things that I didn't like in terms of the quality of the product (actually three). The first is that the moldings are held on by these little plastic pegs that you have to inset in the molding and then press into the dresser. These are incredibly cheaply made and a couple of them broke off in the wood which was disappointing since I then couldn't get them out without a drill (good thing for crazy glue). The second is that some of the drawer knobs didnt fit tight against the drawer and instead would spin. The third and most important, especially of you plan on having this on a wood floor, is that there are three large vertical pieces in the dresser, the two sides and a center piece. This wouldn't be a problem if the center piece was a tiny bit longer than the sides causing it to rock ever so slightly. This isn't bad if you pan on having it on carpet but if its going on wood I'd recommend taking the center piece down about 1/8 of an inch on the bottom prior to construction. But other than those few minor flaws I'd say it was well worth what I payed for it.
You almost need 3 people to assemble this product; one to decipher the picture only instructions which you will need a magnified glass to see with, one to keep you sane while you count all the little parts and alphabetize them yourself as they are shipped in just one bag, and one to do all the work, which took about 5 hours. The drawers can only be pulled out with the square panel which is raised about 1/2 inch of the main drawer face.
This piece actually fits perfectly in my small living room, and it's everything I need it to be. It's very pretty, very solid, seems like it will last for a long time.
The drawers are shallow, so do keep that in mind. The max height is a touch above a dvd container on it's side. So I wasn't expecting quite such shallow drawers, but I made do so it's okay.
I've put together several pieces of furniture in my life, and this one was hands down the most difficult. The instructions are just not clear about which way things go, which is the back, which is the front, where exactly to put the drawer slides...you will have to take some things apart to figure it out and piece it all together. Be careful attaching the bracers that go length wise across the piece, I would not screw those tightly in until you're sure nothing will buckle, and the top will go on nicely. I learned that the hard way. I highly recommend having a friend help you with the top as well. I managed to put mine on backwards so the rough edge faces the front, but I'll be * if I'm going to try and fix that at this point.
I recommend putting the drawers together first. Get all nine of those puppies out of the way first, set them aside. Then start assembling the frame. The piece of wood that goes all the way across, in the middle (a stabilizing piece of wood, is the back of the dresser). I'm including a pic of the drawer depth and also how the drawer slides go, in an attempt to help the rest of you. Good luck. It honestly took me over eight hours to put it all together.
Would I buy it again? Well, I do love the piece. It works perfectly in my tiny Brooklyn apartment. But man. I might need to erase from my mind the awfulness of putting it together. An electric screwdriver will help a great deal, as well.
I love this super funky, modern industrial look. It goes well with my chosen decor. And for the price, you definitely cannot go wrong with this product. I bought two and one was damaged on transport. Their customer service was great and replaced the dresser without a problem! I wish I could submit a photo!
This dresser looks amazing in my boys room. I love the universal color. It has a sleek look. It took about 3-4 hrs to put together and it is very heavy. Just make sure when putting drawers in they are in the correct side or it will not close and look flush. It is made of partial board so I'm sure in time it will need to be replaced. There was a few places where the paint (material) lifted but with a little hodge podge it stayed in place. I used a water paint brush to apply it on. The dresser drawers are not deep so it's probably not a good idea to over stuff. It works perfect for my boys. The knobs makes a great finish and are not made of plastic.
Dressers and chests of drawers provide style, storage, and organization for your bedroom. Perfect for folded clothing, socks, underwear, and other items that don’t require hanging, dressers and chests feature stacking rows of parallel drawers. When shopping for a dresser or chest, decide how much storage you need. A short, wide dresser provides plenty of storage for multiple people, while a tall chest of drawers is perfect for one person’s items. Pay attention to the number and size of drawers. Large drawers are ideal for clothing, while a top row of smaller drawers is perfect for wallets, jewelry, and other small personal items. Finally, choose a dresser or chest of drawers that will fit your decor perfectly. Thankfully, Overstock provides a wide variety of sizes, styles, and colors at affordable prices to match your style and storage needs.
What is a Dresser?
Dressers are usually waist high and feature horizontal drawers stacked atop each other. Two-column dressers are wide and feature plenty of space for couples with lots of clothing to store. Small dressers with a single row of drawers are perfect for smaller rooms. The low height and wide design of dressers creates a spacious surface on top of the dresser that is ideal for displaying pictures, lighting, or floral arrangements.
What is a Chest of Drawers?
A chest of drawers is quite similar to a dresser, as it also features stacking parallel horizontal drawers. But while a dresser is wide and might feature two columns, a chest of drawers is taller, providing more drawers in a single column. A chest of drawer’s narrow profile makes it ideal for smaller rooms, providing convenient storage without taking up too much floor space. The height complements bedrooms with tall ceilings beautifully by drawing the eye to the bedroom’s height.
Classic elegance and a hint of dramatic flair are key for Traditional dressers or chests of drawers. Choose a clean white finish to blend with any color scheme or a rich wood finish to make a statement. Ornate, decorative hardware and intricate, grandiose wood carvings perfectly complete a Traditional dresser.
A Mid-Century Modern dresser or chest of drawers is a perfect way to give your home a hint of retro style. Pick something with tapered legs and small, sleek hardware. Select a warm wood finish, or create an interesting contrast with white drawers surrounded by a brown frame. Elegant simplicity and organic, curving shapes are key to establishing a strong Mid-Century presence.
Make your bedroom feel charmingly comfortable with a Cottage-style dresser or chest of drawers. A warm white or soft pastel finish, distressed for antique charm, will make your space feel cozy. The woodworking and hardware shouldn’t be ornate, but it should ideally feature touches of simplified decoration.
For a Contemporary dresser, minimalist style is key. Select a dresser with clean, straight lines and sleek hardware. Simple knobs or bar pulls in a chrome finish provide a touch of shine. For a very minimalist look, choose a dresser with cut-out handles or integrated pulls and avoid hardware altogether. Select a crisp black or white finish for a modern look that will blend with most color schemes, or choose a more weathered wood finish for a hint of Industrial style.
