  • Decent Blender For The Price...
    Verified Purchase

I originally had a ....... Blender that I absolutely loved, but had issues with 2 of them. So I did a lot of research and found the Dr. Tech BL-1800B should suit my needs. The cost was considerably less than the ........ but the same power level. I read a lot of reviews and watched a couple YouTube videos on this blender and most were positive. When I got the Dr. Tech BL-1800B blender in the mail, I was disappointed because it showed up used. Yes, there was a speck of what appeared to be food on the container and water marks from being washed. I think what happened was someone got it, used it, decided they didn't want it, then sent it back. I wish Overstock would have checked the blender over a little better. The packing foam inside was broken and the box wasn't even taped shut. It was in a shipping box, so it stayed somewhat secure. It did arrive undamaged. ANYWAY... with that problem resolved, let's get on with the review. It's probably going to be an unfair comparison, but I will compare it to the .......... I had. The quality of the plastic casing on the blender was a little thin. As was the plastic for the container. Both seem to be sufficient for the price. (durability??) I found two major cons with this blender. When you are making something and have it going at high speed, the top tends to wiggle up... Therefore, you have to pretty much stand there to make sure it doesn't come off and make a mess. The other con is that the metal gear that the container sits on gets SUPER hot after use. I assume that is why they included another in the box along with having a large aluminum disk on the bottom of the container that comes in contact with this gear... to help dissipate the heat. It was hot to the touch 30 minutes after I was done... and I only had it running for a few minutes! I'm worried about how long this will last with how hot this gear got, but time will tell. I did purchase the extra warranty, so I should be safe. It's not as loud as other blenders I have had and it does chop up and mix things very well. I like the way the front panel is set up better than on the ......... and the overall aesthetics of it were nice. Overall, I am pleased with this blender and would recommend it to anyone looking for a powerful blender at a reasonable price.

  • Very powerful blender.

The blender is very powerful and does state that it is commercial -- it is large and has a 3-prong plug. If you run the blender for long periods it does what other professional blenders brag about -- it heats the contents to the point of making soup (if that is what you want). Otherwise, I would suggest not running as long. My problem lies in the large size of the blending container which means that you have to make ample quantities of anything for the blender to be useful. Since it does not have a smaller alternate for only personal use blends, this is a problem for me. The blades are incredibly sharp -- one side of each blade is serrated with a total of 6 blades; 4 turned up and 2 downward. This creates a vortex when blending. If this blender lasts (only time and use will tell) then it will be a spectacular bargain as it does have the "commercial" blending power that the other two most popular blenders of this type (I think they call theirs "professional") sell for 4-5 times the price! The blade assembly is also heavy and substantial and easily dissembles for cleaning. The lid design is cumbersome but not a deal breaker.

Questions & Answers

  • Q:

"I have a Dr Tech BL-1800B blender that is working well except the bearing holding the blades is warn and leaking. I need just the bearing since the blades are still sharp and working well."

    • A:

I'm sorry I could not find that we sell parts for this blender. I would contact the manufacturer.

  • Q:

"does this unit make hot soup, ice cream?"

    • A:

how does this compare to the vitamex 5200 blender?

    • A:

Hello chasrles10094, The blender does not heat, or cool foods, however you can use it to blend hot or frozen foods. You can find demo videos of this product on Youtube. In reading what people have said about this product online I would say it is a great alternative to a Vitamex for a fraction of the cost. I hope this is helpful. Thank you for shopping with us.

    • A:

Yes, both. If you blend for over a few minutes it will heat up your ingredients to soup hotness.
