This bench is of great quality and very easy to assemble.
This bench looked nice but it definitely looks "unfinished" & upon researching how to paint/stain Parawood it seems it is extremely difficult to paint or stain and it warps easily. Reportedly the paint chips after a short time and it doesn't stain consistently. Parawood produces a latex residue in the wood that inhibits adhesion and drying of stain/paint and stained pieces tend to fisheye (pock marks or craters that show up on a finished surface when there is a contamination of silicone or others oils and waxes on the wood). It is not impossible to paint or stain but there is a lot of work involved with doing it correctly and experts seem to advise against DIYS unless you are a skilled woodworker, they say it is extremely frustrating and there is a high likelihood that you will not be happy with the finish when you are done. We did not want to spend $250.00 and have the bench look terrible, to us it was NOT worth all the work and additional cost to finish it with a questionable result, so we opted out. OS has so many beautiful benches that are pine or oak that are already finished at the same price or lower so why stress it. We re- ordered a finished bench from OS and it was less than this bench. Returning the bench to OS was a breeze, easiest return I ever made!
I was so delighted to find this bench. I chose this instead of a banquet for my kitchen. It comes unfinished and for me that was perfect because my plan was to refinish my existing chairs; so I was able to paint the bench and my chairs the same color. I am using it with the "Simple Living Summer Dining Table". And to pull it all together with matching cushions for the chairs and the bench.
Was afraid to order because there weren't any views on this item. I am so glad with my purchase. The bench is well constructed and the finish is natural but it is pretty enough to leave as is or you can customize it to fit your decor. I haven't yet made up my mind on the finish yet.
