These dishes are very nice and a good value. I ordered two sets and when they arrived, one of the smaller plates in each box was shattered (not just cracked or broken in half). There is very little padding between the plates and too much room for them to flop back and forth during shipping. The fact that it was the SAME plate that was broken in each box suggests a packing problem. I contacted Overstock and was told that I would receive the replacements within a week...which I did. But rather than send two new plates...I received two whole sets of dishes! I'm not complaining, but that doesn't seem like a very economical way to replace parts. The interesting thing was that the SAME plate was broken in the same way (shattered) in one of the two replacement boxes. I don't blame overstock for this at all, but I do think the manufacturer needs to rethink their packing!
We really like this dinnerware set. The sculpted marble indentations are really subtle and nice. The mugs are very comfortable to hold and drink from. The bowls work out perfectly for cereal or dinner salads. We bought matching serving platters, olive trays, cream and sugar set and 4 large serving bowls that I also use for dinner sized salads. The negatives are that they are very heavy, especially coming from Corelle dishes. Some of the plates are not flat on the bottom and will rock or spin unless placed on a padded placemat. We have managed to chip a couple of the cups, and one bowl got broken by the cat. I may order some replacements, but not sure yet. We got one set from Overstock and one set from the manufacturer. We are able to stand the plates on the narrow end in the dishwasher so we can fit more into the machine. I can put all 12 plates in and 6 of the bowls and 4 to 6 small plates, all on the bottom rack. The small plates also fit well on our top rack. You must have a deep microwave if you want them to be able to rotate on a turntable as they are 13" diagonally! We get comments from friends on how much they like these dishes, and they would have gotten 5 stars except for the quality control issue on some plates.
The quality is what I expect from Pfaltzgraff, but better. The dished are heavy and feel expensive but were very budget friendly. They have artisan look, with variances in color and detail, and not the mass-produced, machine-manufactured look. I ordered 3 sets and might order more!
Always disappointed that serving pieces are not available in these sets. Why do manufacturers do this? Can they prefer mismatched table settings? Like the design and lighter weight of the set........bought 2, really need 3................
