The ornate metal strip is kind of flimsy, some of the wood along the edges started coming up; I glued them down, you can place your feet on top; but be sure not to 'plunk' them down it will damage the trunk and when I dust it; some of the stain comes off - I will be adding another layer of varnish or stain. I do like the look; but quality could be better.
My daughter wanted a nice, dark, wicker trunk for keeping throws out of sight in her family room. It seems as though it will be large enough to fit her needs and it is very attractive. I didn't expect heirloom quality, (weight) and this trunk is lightweight but I feel it is a good value for the price. The inside is smooth wood so it shouldn't snag fabric as wicker would. It is definitely not intended to be used for seating.
If you're looking for an inexpensive decorative trunk, that is still good quality, I don't think you can do better than this one. If you're expecting an heirloom quality, solid vintage trunk, this isn't it. Look at flea markets or antique dealers for that. With Overstock, however, you can get a decorative trunk that is still of good quality. It's light weight, easy to move, and looks great in my office. I use it to store blankets, and not heavy things. So, be mindful of the purpose that you want this piece to fulfill, and understand that you're getting an inexpensive trunk, and not a heavy piece of furniture. I think I got a good deal for the money.
