  • Too large and awkward
    Verified Purchase

I used this once and couldnt even bring myself to use it again It is so large, bulky, too many moving parts and it doesnt pop very well. Stick to an air popper or use your large cooking pot for better results

  • slightly different model

I bought my popcorn popper about 2 years ago. It's the best popcorn popper I've ever had and I love it! I use it almost every week, sometimes twice a week. I don't understand the other review that complains you have to stand by it the WHOLE time (which you should be watching anything your cooking outside the oven!). You have to just listen for the popping to slow down and then turn it off. It makes great popcorn, in my opinion, and most all the kernels pop (which may have to do with the popcorn itself, I don't know). I must say that the outside carriage around the hot plate cracked but we put a zip tie around it and it works fine. This happened not too long after we got it but it hasn't affected how it works. When something happens to this one I will certainly purchase another one. It's very easy to clean

  • love the on-off button & removal plate!
    Verified Purchase

I really appreciate the on-off button - many popcorn makers don't have that. Also - the removal plate is great for cleaning - perfect! Plus - you don't have to use very much oil - what a tasty & healthy snack!

  • does a great job with popcorn but does wear out

This is the best popcorn popper I've ever used. With just 2 tbs oil you can get a whole huge bowl of popcorn. And you can add salt that will stick, unlike those air pop machines. This is great for people on a diet who dont want to give up popcorn. I am a little discouraged that the heating element became dystunctional after maybe 60 uses. It was just about as expensive to buy the replacement part as it was to buy a new one, so I found the cheapest price on the net at Overstock, and now I'm back to making my favorite snack.

  • Poor design; poor quality

I purchased this popcorn maker at a high-end kitchen supply store. I now know why it was on sale. My FIRST COMPLAINT upon getting the machine home was that it would not make unbuttered/oiled popcorn. We got past that first minor flaw relatively quickly by using olive oil on our popcorn. The first few times I used this popper, it produced good popcorn. However, my SECOND COMPLAINT was that you must stand next to the machine the entire time it's popping, and immediately remove the popped corn from the heating element, which is on the bottom, or it will burn quickly. There is no auto-shutoff or automatic cooling feature for the heat source. My THIRD COMPLAINT arose when I tried to clean the machine. The oil is not sealed in the popping chamber, so it leaks into the motor during popping, heats up, then becomes "cooked" onto the base. It's like trying to clean off layers of baked-on butter or cooking spray from baking pans -- laborious, at best, and I found, virtually impossible. My FOURTH COMPLAINT is with the butter melting compartment on the top of the plastic bowl. (Refer to fifth complaint below for negative description of placement.) As the popcorn is popping, it can dislodge the butter compartment, and create a hole where popped corn can fall out, or in some cases, come flying out of the unit. It also is not intuitive how to accurately measure salt, which is supposed to gradually shake into the popping corn via holes in the bottom of its chamber. The compartment is deceptively larger than you think, and there are no markers for measuring "1/4 teaspoon," "1/2 teaspoon," etc. I ended up with way, way too much, and the salt mostly fell in a few clumps at the beginning of the popping process instead of distributing throughout the popping time. My FIFTH COMPLAINT is with the popping chamber-turned-popped corn bowl. Because of where the butter melting and salt distribution cup is on the lid, you have to remember to remove this before replacing the separate lid and then turning over the unit to empty the popped corn into the now-created bowl. That sounds easy enough, but when you have burned your popcorn once or twice because it sat completely popped for a few too many seconds on the hot base -- and everyone knows the smell of burnt popcorn does not quickly dissipate -- you start getting a little hasty about completing the process of getting the fully popped corn off the heat unit as fast as possible. Even with some experience at this, I still managed to end up with popped corn dumped all over the place, and a sticky butter and salt chamber flying out because I forgot about the separate lid. And as if all that wasn't enough, my SIXTH AND FINAL COMPLAINT is that after a brief three (?) of weeks of usage (maybe every other day of popping, at most), the switch on the front of the unit broke, rendering the machine useless. Naturally, I didn't save the receipt, so the high-end chain kitchen store would not refund or replace the product. Buyer beware.

  • Heating plate clips break easily
    Verified Purchase

The heating plate clips break super easily and you have to buy a new heating plate (almost the cost of the entire popper) to get replacement clips. Buy a different brand.

Got this for my dad, a die hard stir crazy popcorn popper man. I have even gone as far as looking in charity shops to replace his old one over the years. He just loves this one and says it pops even better, much easyer to clean and store. He once again can enjoy the evening bowl of popcorn. Every thing I have ever order has been top notch and delivery great too. Thank you overstock

  • Poppin good

It works real good. I had a Stir Crazy. It worked good but was a hassle to clean. This one makes about the same amount of popcorn, but it is shaped better to wash. What I really like is the part that stirs can be washed in the sink. Can't do that with the Stir Crazy.
