The house we built is in a rural area. I didn't want to deal with a large propane tank for gas, but I didn't want high electric bills. That's why I got this induction cooktop. But saving on electric bills is just one of the reasons I love this. It's a dark gray which I like better than solid black because it goes better with my countertops. It's super easy to clean and always looks good. My former gas cooktop was a nightmare to clean and didn't even look that good after I cleaned it. This cooktop has a feature where you can sync two burners together to make one large cooking surface. They even include the griddle-type pan to do it. I thought of it as a gimmick I would never use. Turns out that I love it. I use it to brown large quantities of meat before I put the meat into the crockpot. You could also use it to make something like pancakes. The cooktop brings water to boiling in virtually no time, so I can cook pasta very quickly. Once you take the pot off the burner, the burner shuts off automatically. Also, if you turn down the "heat", it happens instantly. It also has a kitchen timer, which is a nice bonus. I've been using it for about three months now and I couldn't be happier.
I bought this GE cooktop to replace another GE cooktop of the same line. My guess is that the other cooktop was at least 13 years old, and my efforts to refurbish it made everything worse. Be very careful about the measurements of 36 inch standard because this cooktop was slightly larger than the previous cooktop in the width of the hole needed for the penetration (maybe 3/8 inch). Also, the corners are rounded on this model, taking about 1/4 inch off of the point in each of the 4 corners. The result was a very tight fit, no need for the tie downs, and a very small hole at the two front corners that you have to know to look for. It is much better than what was there previously, but this is now not a standard 36 inch product. Just so that you know.
So excited to receive - swapped with old standard cooktop - took less than 15 minutes -3 wires and done. What an impressive unit. Be warned, you have to adjust your way to cook if you aren't used to induction (as we weren't), but worth it.
The cooktop works fine, my only complaint (and it turned out to be more of a problem than I thought) is that the temp does not lower in increments smaller than 25 which is too hot for some things like pancakes cook too fast or not well enough
