Just purchased this fan, and love it! Easy assembly instructions. Had it up in no time. This has got to be one of the quietest fans I've ever purchased.
The 96 inch Big air fan is the perfect fit in our oversized great room with attached kitchen and den. The fan hangs from a 10-foot ceiling in the corner of the 25 by 35 foot space. Even when running at its lowest speed in up-draft mode, it moves air in the back corners of the kitchen which have always suffered from poor circulation from the central air system. We now do not need additional fans in the dining area and kitchen. Installation: Installation was easy and quick. The provided printed instructions are over-simplified but I had already watched the youtube installation video and that filled in the omissions in the printed manual. It took me about 40 minutes working solo to remove the old light fixture and assemble and hang the new fan. I followed the instructions' recommendation for a solo installer and mounted the motor to the ceiling then assembled the blade hub and all nine fan blades on the floor. I then hung the entire fan blade assembly on the the motor. It's a little awkward handling the 8-foot fan assembly but was not difficult. Notes: First start up was a bit confusing. I tried three times to connect the remote with the fan before I discovered that you cannot test the remote until the fan completes its full 90-second (or so) boot up where it spins up to speed then reversed then stops. Only after it completes this entire sequence can you send commands from the remote. Also you do not need to push the 'Set' button in the remote if you have not changed the remotes 'address' with the little switches in the battery compartment. Be sure that you do not have a dimmer or speed switch controlling the fan. it is a DC motor and all speed control should come from the remote and not the wall switch. Reducing the voltage on the mains power could cause overheating of the motor or other problems. A dimmer will not slow the speed of the fan, only the remote can do that. There is a balance kit provided but my installation does not need balancing. I did have one blade hanging slightly lower than the rest - probably the result of lifting the full blade assembly into place. I did a little pushing up on that blade where it attaches to the hub and bent it back into place. Aesthetics: The fan is barely audible at low speed but not entirely silent. The sound of the blades cutting the air is noticeable in a quiet room but not noticeable under conversation, television viewing etc. I wish it had a slower speed than the current minimum that would render it silent. I cannot imagine using this fan on any speed above #3 (out of 6) in normal circumstances. it is very noisy and the breeze it creates is rather uncomfortable for anybody in the room. It would be great for drying paint I suppose! I did not like the look of black plastic blade tips so I spray painted them with a matte nickel color that matched the blades. This took 10 minutes and was well worth it for my taste. I do recommend this product for large rooms, but as mentioned above, I wish it had a slower lowest speed so it could run in silent mode.
