The black top is 55 inches across and is smooth and glossy with dark gray striations throughout (like marble) the inlay colors range from dark tan to dark brown with speckled black (reminds me of granite). It is as elegant as I had hoped for and looks more expensive then it was. The cabinet has a flat finish and is not shiny/glossy with mid oak color to medium brown/chestnut, colors are very close to picture but definitely not darker. The veneer pattern on doors and sides are more angled on the piece (like lined up arrow head points) and NOT the same as the pattern pictured. The doors and drawers align perfectly, are more narrow then hoped, and have antique brass/very dark gold hardware in a flat finish with intricate detailed flowers. This piece can go into any room of the house... entry, bedroom, kitchen, dining room, it's very nice looking. I do not think it will stand up to high traffic use from children, but definitely will hold up to occasional use for a very long time.
The buffet arrived in four heavy packages, very well packaged and nothing was damaged. All of the parts and pieces were there and labeled well. The buffet is darker than the color shown online, there is no reddish tinge to the wood it is more of a walnut color, but still beautiful. Putting it together took my husband and I a whopping 6 hours. It was heavy, cumbersome and the instructions were not always clear. Some of the locking nuts did not work properly, and there were areas where either there were no pre-drilled holes to accept screws or the holes would not line up properly. They also give you these ugly tan things to cover up the locking nuts but we skipped that step since all of them are located inside the piece or get covered up. Pointless. Once assembled, only one drawer closes smoothly, the rest "catch" and you have to slam them closed. Not great. However, after the 6 hour nightmare of assembling this ourselves was over we are very happy with it. We'll use the sticky drawers to store things that are not fragile/we don't need very often (which is a drag - the drawers should just close better). It does look great, is extremelyy heavy once assembled and sturdy. Very nice looking piece of furniture. If you don't like assembling things for six hours, find something else. In hindsight I would have, but I do like it now that the work is done. We'll keep it for a long time.
I had my eye on this buffet for a long time. I finally gave in and purchased it. A few things I wished I would have known before I made this decision. First - the color of this buffet is brown/tan. The picture shows more of a grey/white wash and I checked this on several different computers, iPad, phone, and the colors stayed consistent. But when it arrived it is definitely a brown/tan color with a smidge of grey and in my opinion really no white - the wash just makes the tan lighter in some areas and darker in others. Luckily for me it still went with my home décor, but I was expecting something entirely different. Secondly I don't know if I missed this, or if I don't know enough about "reclaimed pine" but this buffet is NOT finished. It has a raw very primed feeling. I had a friend set a wine glass on it and the perspiration already left a stain I cannot remove. So I will need to either refinish this piece or keep it covered, neither of which I expected to do after the purchase. Otherwise the piece does look beautiful in person, everyone compliments it when they walk in the door. And it's a solid piece - nothing flimsy or cheap looking about it.
This item has all the features I wanted and works well. I would have given it 5 stars if the color in the picture was true to the actual piece. The color is more gray than a light tan as shown in the picture. It turns out that the gray color will work in our room, so we kept it. I had no problems putting it together. I wish it was a wood veneer; it's more like a wood grain plastic veneer. I guess I can't really expect wood for such a low price. All in all, I am happy with the purchase.
