I have a love hate relationship with this piece. It ships in three boxes from Overstock. All three boxes shipped on the same day at the same time. Received the first box on a Monday, second on Tuesday, and the third on Wednesday. That's on UPS. The items came well wrapped in packing cloth and encased in styrofoam, however there were still chips and dings. I'm handy, so I did an assessment to figure out which, if any of those damages would actually be visible. There were two, a chipped back corner of one the shelves and the front right corner of the base was pretty much gone. I decided to fix it as opposed to going through the aggravation of sending it back and getting another, which lets face it, could be equally damaged or worse. The people who estimated 3 to 5 hours to build this were spot on. I did it over two nights after dinner, and add a third to make the repairs. The instructions are fantastic. Each piece of hardware (bolts, cams and locks, screws, etc) come in an individual bag with a letter sticker. The instructions explain what to use where. Each piece of hardware came with a few extras in case you lose one. Definite bonus points for that. Each part has stickers that give each piece a part number and label the area of the part as the front and/or top. It's a good system, however, it's also annoying. The stickers use a serious adhesive. It would be a lot better if they used easy peel stickers. Once it's done you have stickers visible all over the place, and as soon as you try to peel them they shred. You're going to be digging glue off with your thumbnail. Second, one of the pieces was mislabeled, and this was a serious screwup. The very top horizontal piece running the width of the buffet, had the front sticker at what was actually the back. Figured this out after the thing was assembled and standing upright, it was a two person job to remove it and flip it around. But it gets a bit worse. This also meant that the center vertical piece that's attached to that top piece was also backwards and that wasn't immediately obvious until I went to install the adjustable shelves. The holes in the center piece did not line up with the holes in the outer sides. That piece had to be flipped, and because I already had installed the back piece, there were now two screw holes in the front facing. Had to patch those as well. So, first night I built the shell, second night I fixed the messed up center vertical piece, installed the shelves and doors, and built and installed the drawers. Third night I patched the screw holes, fixed the chip on the shelf and rebuilt the front right bottom corner. Fourth morning sanded the repairs, and color matched the stain. The whole thing needed a thorough cleaning once done, everything had a gritty feel to it, not sure if it was sawdust or something left over from finishing process. There will also be styrofoam flakes everywhere, and you have to get that sticker adhesive off. All told, the thing is heavy duty, and absolutely gorgeous. Just know you might be getting a bigger project than you've bargained for, and if you're not handy or not willing to take a chance on getting an item in completely pristine condition you might want to look elsewhere. If the overall experience had been better and the item hadn't been damaged I wouldn't hesitate giving it 5 stars.
I bought this piece to hold some infrequently used dinnerware in the lower shelving units and some tablecloth in the drawers. It's a simple piece with a clean, classy look. It's not a super solid piece but for the price, it serves it's purpose and is sturdy enough to do the job.
We have received compliments on this buffet. It is quite pretty and looks good in our dining room with mixed woods. We use one side as a bar holding bottles on the bottom and glassware on the top two shelves. It works wonderfully. I use the other side to store serving pieces. The shelves are adjustable which gives flexibility in how it is used. It was somewhat of a pain to put together but my husband and I completed it in an hormone two one evening. It came packaged with each part clearly labeled including the hardware-nothing missing. I only wish the back was solid wood and not particle bord.
