The immersion stick blender offers me a convenient alternative to dragging out a big mixer just to whip a little batch of homemade mayonnaise I like to make. A great immersion blender can replace expensive and bulky kitchen tools, however, this one is not the greatest. The blender, itself, comes in two different pieces. The motor that you would plug in, and then the plastic (with blades) attachment. When using the blender, the attachment comes loose. I would have to stop blending to tighten up the attachment again and again. I would recommend spending a little more money to get a better immersion stick blender.
Immersion blenders are a miracle in the kitchen. They are so versatile -- mixer, blender, dicer, etc. I puree soups without having to drag out the blender (I have a small kitchen and can't store stuff on counters, just in cabinets and on high shelves). I use the hand-held blender part to mash potatoes. When I use my food processor, my potatoes come out pasty because of the starch. Not so with my immersion blender! So I bought this one for my sister-in-law ... but that might have been a mistake because she still hasn't taken it out of the box! Oh well. Can't please everyone. But if you buy one, please use it!
