This was hard to put together. Between me and my kid, we usually get the job done. But we needed help with this one. There were several defects in the veneer. Most aren't noticeable when assembled. The cushion is like something you would find on patio furniture. I covered it with some fabric that I had on hand but you could toss a decorative pillow on to dress it up. It fits where I wanted it and does the job I wanted it to do. So it will do for now.
Some of the reviewers said it was plastic?! It's not. It's wood. Case in point: how many times have you encountered veneer on the UNDER side of a seat? The underside was painted black, but you can still see the knots. I can't tell if the wood slats are Pine or Alder, but most DEFINITELY WOOD. The ends of the bench are encased in.... metal plate on the top and edges up to it are...? I examined it very close and the edges are so tight, smooth and same color - it sure looks like it could be the same material. The item was packaged extremely well. Regardless there was a slight nick on the bottom edge near the center of one of the sides. I tapped it with some stain to cover the fresh lumber. Now it looks intentional. Seriously - at 160 for a bench that looks this nice in my living room. NOT COMPLAINING. I am placing it in the room below. My handyman is pleading with me not to paint the wood seat to match the sofa before I set it front. I'm probably going to do it anyway. I'll post an updated photo once it's placed.
One of my favorite pieces of furniture! It's heavy and substantial which adds to the quality despite being veneer. Only complaint is that it scratches easier than I would like, but considering the price, it's not a big deal.
Color is a very dark "oak like".....particle board with veneer coating. Baskets are cheap-vinyl/plastic. The screws to secure the draws to the metal framework were missing. A very heavy bench. It would have been too much of a bother to repack all the parts to return it. I will replace the baskets and recover the plastic vinyl seat cushion. It seems sturdy...time will tell if the locking mechanisms hold the bench together.
