It is a complex piece of furniture to assemble, but if you follow the nicely detailed directions and pay attention, it's quite doable. Would not recommend for those who get easily frustrated or do not like to read instructions. Like others, I found an issue where pilot holes were supposed to be drilled for the center support foot but they weren't there, so I needed a drill in addition to the rubber mallet, flat and phillips screwdrivers. Once assembled, it's a very functional nice looking bench that looks great in my entryway.
We purchased this bench for our mudroom but think its size, lightweight structure and design might be best suited in low use areas like storing toys in a kid's bedroom. The dual open lid is handy and it seems to hold the weight of a 250lb husband ok. Assembly was straightforward and quick; only minor issues with hinge pilot holes in the wrong location that we had to redrill and an overzealous hammer-wielding husband cracking the wood frame while inserting the screw hole covers (it would be better if these covers were made of soft plastic or rubber). Overall, we're happy with the bench and it's as expected for a mid-*** price point furniture piece.
I like my bench. It's easy to assemble and very sturdy. I rated 4 stars because if it's not on carpet...it slides very easily. I think I can glue some rubber on bottom to stop sliding...otherwise...I love it!
I am happy with this bench. The color was browner than what it appeared to be on-line, and the bench was a couple of inches shorter, but the length worked out great since it now fits by my door perfectly! Since I have bamboo flooring, I put rubber pads underneath each leg to prevent the bench collapsing as some of the other reviews reported. The finish on the bench is a bit more rustic than I anticipated which is why I gave it four instead of five stars.
