Using professional tools, this took me nearly 3 hours to assemble. I'm very good at construction and I would rate this as difficult to construct. There are more than 100 screws and dowels used in the construction. If you aren't good at screwing things in straight and true, you'll never get the parts to align together. You'll need screwdrivers (straight and phillips), a rubber mallet and a straight allen wrench. The allen wrench provided is bent allen wrench and you won't have enough clearance to secure the screws in tight areas. This includes the 6 screws which hold down the seat. The instructions are reasonably good and the parts are labeled. On the downside, things aren't labeled top/bottom/back/front. There are 8 or so types of screws so you do need to really pay attention. There are also places where there should have been pilot holes, but there weren't. If you can get through the construction, this i's a good looking, solid piece that is small in scale.
This bench was exactly what I was looking for -- I couldn't be more pleased. It is small, a nice clean white, with baskets big enough for my kids to store hats and mittens. The clearance room underneath is spacious enough to tuck shoes underneath. My challenge was finding a bench small enough to sit out in the open in my laundry/mud room versus against the wall, with a low back to keep my 4-year-old from falling backwards when putting on and taking off shoes. It looks like it was made for the space it occupies and the price was right. Highly recommend it!
I bought this bench to put behind a reclining couch that is highly visible from the dining room and front entry way. What bothered me about the back of the couch was the "leather match" that was used on the backs and the adjustable flaps that attached with velcro that allowed the couch to recline smoothly. Along with these issues, there was also an ugly metal bar at the bottom of the back of the couch that just screamed at me every time I saw it...which was all the time! I couldn't use a common sofa table in back of this couch cause with the motion furniture it wouldn't have allowed sufficient clearance without knocking stuff off of the sofa table and interfering with the reclining action. So...whatever I bought to hide the issues that were bothering me had to be low profile that wouldn't interfere with the motion action of the furniture. ENTER THE SAFAVIEH MADISON BROWN BICAST LEATHER STORAGE BENCH! This bench does exactly what I wanted it to do! My couches are dark chocolate brown and the storage bench matches perfectly! This piece with it's low profile hides most of the ugly metal bar at floor level and the ugly back flaps of my motion furniture, all while having a homogenous overall look. The storage space in the bench is used to house extra throws for those cold winter nights...perfect! The leather on the bench is a dark chocolate brown...and I choose this piece specifically because of the attractive stitching and for the fact that it DIDN'T have any button tufts to pop at a later date. The design of this piece is simple, understated yet beautiful and functional. Also, the bench seems quite sturdy when sitting on it. What more could one ask for? My only complaint would be that the UPS delivery person left the box by my garage door on an extremely rainy day. (Of course it was too much for the delivery person to carry the box to the covered front porch where it would have stayed dry!) I was worried that the piece would be drenched...but only the box was wet...the furniture piece inside was perfect!
