The hardest part about assembling this bed was taking apart my old bed so I could move the mattress around! It took me about 90 minutes - being helped by an 8 year old - to fully unbox and assemble this using only (mostly) the tools provided. Because I don't have much experience assembling my own furniture, I took my time and referred back to the instructions frequently. It really was quite easy. EXCEPTION: All of the screws (after the assembly of the headboard and footboard) were too long. And yes, I double checked length and actually measured them to be sure. This would not really have been a problem except that the nuts are "closed ended." (Don't know what this is actually called, but the nuts had a slight "cap" on them that keeps the end of the screw from protruding beyond the nut.) While I am sure this is for the safety of customers, since the screws in question run parallel to the side rails, I simply swapped out the "matching" nuts for silver nuts I found in my garage junk drawer. These didn't look as pretty & the screw ends protruded, but they are not visible and no one will brush up against them, but they allowed me to fully tighten the screws so that I had a secure (rather than "sloppy") fit. I've only slept in the bed two nights, but my 8 year old and I had a "wrestling" match on the bed this afternoon and it's stable, secure and not squeaky. I'm very happy with it so far! (BONUS: I kind of feel like I rock since I put together a bed by myself!) :)
Color was definitely not as pictured. It is gold paint lightly brushed onto silver metal, meaning the silver comes through much more than the gold. It is more like a distressed grey than a gold. Would have returned but too much of a hassle. Other than that, it is very sturdy for my King sized bed, and love the modern platform look.
