Bought for $750 with additional holiday discount. Delivery arrived in about 10 days (quicker than the 3 week estimate). Delivery company called three days before, then again the day before to confirm delivery window. Items arrived with no damage and no missing parts (yay)! Bed is mostly solid woods covered in a dark maroon veneer with charcoal grey inserts at headboard. Instructions were reasonably straightforward too. I'm no handyman but I've put my share of household things together. This took about 4 hours and the only additional tool needed is a basic power drill. I'm fairly athletic and did it by myself, but there are a few pieces the arch legs) and a few moments (attaching the headboard) where two people could be a necessity. The only possible weakness/con is the headboard. Surprisingly the backing behind the (attractive/firm) cushioned inserts, is thick cardboard(?). But when leaning against the front side there is only slight yield, so perhaps there is more to the backing. All in all, a good price on a "unique and still masculine platform bed" *** .
I ordered this bed in the full/queen and complimented it with a red/white/blue shabby chic patriotic look. It looks great - my only reservation is that the bed is low to the ground (legs are lower than pictured) even with the foundation under the mattress. We raised the bed somewhat using 2 x 4 lumber for the bed slats. Still a great bed value for the price.
We thought for a long time before making this purchase and even went shopping at the stores first. However, the store prices are steep and the selection isn't that great. Since the price is right, and with several good reviews, we decided to give this bed a go, and I'm very glad we did! This bed is heavy and is made of real wood. Not difficult to put together either. The bed fits a master bedroom very well and looks much much more expensive than what we paid for. Our bed has a short box spring (5" high) so the bed doesn't sit too high. If it helps, the color is close to red mahogany stain by minwax stain. I actually refinished our nightstands with that shade and it fits our new bed perfectly! I added a pic of the nightstand stained red mahogany for reference. The only con is for our Eastern King matress, there's like a 3-4" gap at the foot of the bed frame. I wonder if it's so you can make the bed easier. However, it does get covered by a comforter so you can't see it.
