    Skip to the bottom if you want the short version. I love this cooker. The design is shockingly simple, which is basically a flame thrower shooting into a welded up C shaped tube submerged in the oil. If you open up the propane it heats up about as fast as a small plug-in quart sized fryer. Once it's up to temp, you must back off the gas flow to keep it from overheating. In that "cruise" mode it feels like it's not using much gas at all. Much less than fuel consumption than a turkey fryer for example. On heat-up it's a little loud, well, like a flamethrower shooting down a pipe. Maintaining temp, it's not bad at all. I was really disappointed when I saw the size of the basket that comes with it, but in reality, when filled with oil, you use the entire depth of the basket, not just the bottom half like in most fryers. I guess I can fry around 30 wings in a batch. Because this fryer has such a large supply of oil, when you put in the wings, they barely make a drop in temp of the oil and they cook in a lot less time than a regular fryer. My fryer took about 3 & 1/4 gallons of oil to fill to capacity. At three gallons of oil, it didn't even hit the bottom of the basket when down, or even touch the thermometer so you can get a temp reading. The last ~1/4 of oil makes it at the perfect level. The high sides also do a great job of containing the boil-off keeping it safe and the area around the fryer pretty clean. The dump valve on the fryer is fantastic but I was scared of a kid or shoelace accidentally pulling the dump handle and dumping scalding oil everywhere. Go to home depot and buy a $5 brass plug and just hand tighten over the outlet and the problem is solved. Easy to remove when you want to drain, and the plug won't let the oil out accidentally. The manual claims the design of the cooker keeps grime from getting baked on the bottom which is a huge plus. The oil is heated in the middle via the tube and not from the bottom like in a turkey fryer. It does make a difference. I've held two wing parties so far and the thing looks fantastic when you drain it. No scrubbing needed. The basket is commercial quality construction and the welds on the rest of the fryer look solid and it should last for decades. Don't get it wet through, or it will rust. ------------ Short version: + Very simple design + solid construction. + easy cleanup ? Needs more than 2.5 Gal of oil. - Needs a brass cap (from HW store) on the drain pipe to lock-out accidental draining during operation
