I own a very busy small engine repair shop and we forever getting machines in with bad batteries. Units with HydroStatic transmissions (nearly all modern units) can be very hard to push. We have a full size jump starter that will start a full size diesel tractor trailer (400 CCA) but it is heavy and awkward. I have been looking at these new "mini-me" jumpers with skepticism for some time and I finally jumped the gun and purchased this unit. overall it is fantastic but with a couple qualifyers. The biggest downer is that you cannot crank the engine for more than 5 seconds (which is plenty to start a car) which many times is not long enough for the mechanical fuel pumps to get fuel from the rear tank to the carburetor if it has been stting for a while. However, since a lawn tractor starter will only draw about 100 amps, I am able to crank for at least 10 seconds without issue or the unit shutting down to protect itself. So, this is not often an issue starting lawn and garden tractors. That said, I don't get why they cant use heavier jumper cables such as 4 gauge vs the 8 or 10 gauge included...maybe to protect the battery from discharging to rapidly and overheating? That said, this unit is so convenient compared to the 20 IB. tank we have been using for years. It weighs only a pound or two and cranks those tractors over as if they have a new battery in them. It never seems to go dead and will crank over at least 10 if not 20 units before it must be charged. Then there are all the little bonuses such as the ability to charge phones, a handy flashlight, auto shut-off when the phone is fully charged and I tested it running my laptop, a 17" core i5 HP workbook and it ran the machine for about 2 hrs...very handy. All in all, this unit is used constantly in the shop for charging the employees phones to jump starts and it has performed flawlessly. Outstanding product and a big Kudo's to Overstock for selling a quality product. Buy it, you'll love it! Kevin, Kevins Small Engine and Tractor Service, 03908
The quality is good but so far all I have used is the compressor. It did a good job at Christ mas blowing up the kid's toys, etc. I did cut an arc just to ck out the charger.. A*****
This charger has a tremendous 200 amp assist start for really dead batteries. You have to be a bit careful because it doesn't shut off like an automatic. However I have used it on batteries that are older and don't respond well to a automatic, and letting it "overcharger" a bit and for certain it kicked new life into the older batteries. It feels like a real tough brute and I love it. I have several vehicles and tractors, Jeeps so it gets a real workout. Sometimes I let this charger do the tough work and then let it finish on an automatic, especially if I don't plan to be around to shut it off. Yeh the handle seems a bit whimpy but hasn't broken and didn't know how life was without it!! Great price on Overstock, especially if you are a member with cash rebate from a previous purchase and then free shipping with a holiday discount!!
