I bought this specifically because it said you can place it on the bottom of the oven. When I received it the directions said not recommend for use on the bottom of gas ovens. They prefer you use it on the lower rack. All the good reviews must be for electric ovens.
I have a number of enameled cast iron pieces, including LC, Staub, Chasseur, and Fontignac. The shape and size of this "casserole" is perfect for daily use. The handles are a good size and shape. The enamel has not chipped or scratched, but I only use silicone and wood utensils (never any metal). FYI: the item is made in China and the cast iron is thicker - and therefore heavier - than the ones made in France.
