I'm so happy with these blackout curtains! I ordered 2 sets for a large double wide window measuring 80" wide and hung them on a rod with matching clip-on rings, (also from Overstock,) that I extended to 106" wide. This creates the illusion of a much wider window and allows me to pull the curtains open and have the bulk of the fabric on either side without blocking the view. When the curtains are pulled closed there is still plenty of material to create soft folds across the window. This blocks about 95% of the light through this east-facing window.I bought the gray which is more of a blue-gray, as another reviewer mentioned. It works beautifully with my soft gray carpet even though there is no blue tone to the carpet color. The curtain fabric is the same color on both sides and has a somewhat heavy, yet soft, silky texture that drapes beautifully. I was surprised that the thread used was white, not gray, and the hem is just straight stitched, not a more hidden hem-stitch that I would have used if I made them myself. I thought that was going to be pretty noticeable but frankly, now that they are hung, it doesn't bother me enough to complain. I ironed them before hanging them, although they weren't overly wrinkled. Overall, the look is beautiful, they block the light effectively and I would definately buy them again at this great price.

I compared this product with 2 others sets of curtains from two major department stores. (one starts with "S" the other with a "K") These curtains were mid-range between both stores in terms of price, but the quality is superior! I have 2 large sliding glass doors that face West, so as the winter winds started to blow, I needed a solution. When this product arrived, I immediate loved the color and texture. When I hung them up, they definitely blocked out more light than the other ones I had tried. I can already tell a difference in the reduction of cold air that used to enter my living room. I never know what to think of these ratings when I read them. It's hard to order curtains without seeing them first. After shopping around, I had to leave a comment and highly recommend these.

I liked these curtains enough to buy them for 5 rooms in my home. The feel of the fabric is soft and smooth and they drape nicely. They're not heavy or stiff. I have purchased Chocolate, Beige and Dark Olive. The two darker colors do a great job of blocking light, the Beige not as well but still very good--good enough to use in the room of my day-sleeping shift-worker.(The Beige is not a gold at all but more of a very nice Stone or Antique White color.) We have a room with a wall of large windows and they help a lot with insulating. Before hanging I tossed them in the dryer with a damp cloth for 10-15 min. , hung them up right away, and all wrinkles or folds disappeared.

  • When they say "soft," they mean it.

As someone familiar only with heavy, rubber-backed insulated drapes, I think the manufacturers seriously under-promoted that aspect of this product in the description. I can't believe how soft they are, and how well they hang and drape, nothing like the old insulated curtains. The fabric has a rich feel, but silky smooth, and it completely blocks the light, even direct sunlight. You may have a little light bleed through at the top where the rod is, but the fabric itself is totally, surprisingly, opaque. You can't tell if it's day or night, at least through the fabric. All of us online shoppers know the feeling of buying an item, and, once it arrives, finding out that it somehow doesn't live up to our expectations. This product exceeded my expectations, and will probably go into my Hall of Fame of Great Online Finds. Score one for the shopper!

These curtains arrived very quickly and I am completely satisfied. We ordered the beige curtains for the dining room and the chocolate for the living room. I like both colors, but I see why people have described the colors differently. Depending on the lighting the color will change. Sometimes the chocolate does look like a milk chocolate color. At first I was a little disappointed in this because I really wanted a darker shade. Now, I don't mind the milk chocolate color and at times it does look very dark like I really wanted. Same is true with the lighting on the beige curtains. Sometimes it looks very light and at other times it is much darker. We do have more than one window in both rooms so the light is always changing throughout the day. The black out description of these is quite accurate. Even with the beige curtains not much light at all comes through when they are closed. At first I was skeptical about the thermal feature because all other thermal curtains I have had had the white rubbery backing. We definitely noticed a difference in the heat retention in both rooms after taking down the thin summer curtains and putting up these. These look so much better than the ugly white backing, too. The curtains are very easy to hang, they drape beautifully and using the tie backs that come with them during the day to let in some light make them look quite elegant. The material is really nice in my opinion. Some people characterized it as shower curtain material or polyester pants material. I think it is much heavier and really a nice soft quality feeling polyester. I put them in the dryer with a wet towel on air dry for about 10 min. or less and had no noticable wrinkles. They are machine washable, too. Totally satisfied. Pleased with Overstock, again.

  • Finally warm in Washington

    Option: Burgundy/Wine

I purchased these thermal black out curtains for my formal living room and connected dining room area, as they are located on the north and east side of my house. It is always cold in these rooms and I cannot maintain a level temperature between that area and the family room/kitchen, which stays about 7-10 degrees warmer. The first night that I put up the curtains it was less than 1 degree cooler in the living/dining room, which then allowed the heat to travel down the hall to the bedrooms. All this time I thought I had a crappy furnace that was inadequately heating my home; turns out my windows were functioning more like doors. These panels are washable, which is fantastic as I have dogs and acreage which create a lot of dust. The fabric material is fabulous! They hang well, they look luxurious and rich! I had tried to order thermal curtains from ****, but they were back ordered for five months. The curtains I chose had mediocre reviews as the panels had a rubber-type backing that smelled when out of the package and the curtains could not be washed (only dry cleaned; like I have time for that). I ordered them because they were cheap and would work. I am so glad they were back-ordered and I cancelled my order and purchased these curtains instead! They were the same price and 100 times better! The only down fall is that with the black out panels and located on the north east side of my house, the room is darker during the day time, even when the panels are pulled back away from the window. However it is December in Washington and is gray every day. Unless I put up shears, anything else would have darkened the room similarly. Very, very happy with this product; wouldn't change a thing!

  • Beauty plus Utility
    Option: Olive/Artichoke

I am very happy to have found these curtains. I ordered the black 96 inch ones for four windows in my bedroom and they work great. I have a street light outside my window, and they black out all of the light at night. I found some curved curtain rods at a major dept. store, which wrap around the sides of the windows so there is no light leakage whatsoever. There were a few wrinkles from being in the package, but I put two panels at a time in the dryer along with a wet pillowcase, and the wrinkles came out in 30 minutes with no ironing necessary. The fabric is smooth, almost slick in a way, which is good because lint does not stick at all (which is great since they are black!) When I was getting ready to hang them, some dust got on one of them, which I was able to quickly rub off with my hand. The fabric seems very durable also, and it looks like they will last a long time. Even though durable, the fabric is also soft and drapes nicely. The price is very reasonable, when you consider a major linen store would charge that much or more for only one panel, and you are getting two panels per package. I can't say enough about these curtains, I think they are perfect in every way. There were tie backs included, which I won't need to use because I chose to use rings with the rods, so the curtains can be opened and closed very easily. I first ordered the wheat color, which I thought looked golden in the picture. However, it was more of a camel tan, which I didn't want, so I returned them and Overstock processed my refund the following week.

  • Do you want black out?

    Option: Dark Grey

These curtains definitely black out the sun. Prior to putting these up, the master bedroom in our new house was very bright in the morning due to windows on N, S sides and skylights from master bathroom. While closing the bathroom door limited that light the main windows still allowed a lot of sun light in. We purchased these hoping to find a fix and boy did we ever. These are great blinds and if you are looking for room darkening; go with these! The only issue (our own fault), is that we should have gotten the 96 inch length and moved the curtain rod up higher to compensate. The 84 inch are a few inches off the floor, so if you want "pooling" (I guess it is the new thing), which we did not you will want longer. We could have avoided pooling and had a better ceiling to floor affect with the 96 inch. I would not subtract a star b/c this is our doing and has nothing to do with the curtain itself...Highly recommended.

  • Great Quality Blackout Curtains
    Verified Purchase
    Option: Olive/Artichoke

These curtains are great! I ordered two sets of the Dark Olive which look more like a dark khaki with a muted olive green hue, but they work very well with the colors in my comforter and with my wall color. They block the light very well and help muffle the sound a little of our neighbors barking dogs. The wide 54" panels cover my double hung windows well and I used a longer rod for my single hung window to make it appear a little wider and the curtains have a little more fullness over this narrower window. I put the curtain panels in my drier on a low setting for about 5 minutes and it removed the few wrinkles before I hung them. They feel so soft and drape nicely; not stiff at all like the old insulated drapes that used to have the white rubberized backing on them. The back of these drapes is the same color as the front. Some light might come through the space at the top of the rod and the sides but you can eliminate this by getting a rod that mounts very closely to the wall or you can buy a long window scarf to drape over the top space and down the sides which would look very nice with these. I like that these curtains have two hanging options: You can sheer them on using the rod pocket or place your rod through the spaced sewn tabs on the back of the rod pocket to make it have more of a pleated look. My daughter-in-law likes them so much that she said she is ordering some for all of their bedroom windows. I'm going to order 3 more sets for my guest bedroom!! These are great!

  • The best black out panels ever!

I first ordered the dark blue panels for my guest room and I was quite surprised at the quality of these beautiful panels. And two panels for the price of one! The panels are a beautiful durable material and not thin at all nor are they too heavy however do well blocking the light as much thicker blocking panels I have bought in the past. The dark blue matched the guest room perfectly! And are extremely well made and durable. I quickly ordered the light blue panels for my bedroom and of course arrived at my doorstep right away! A perfect match once again! There is no need to worry about the panels being different lengths as I have seen ordering online with other companies. However, there is no lining, but there is no need for one. They look high quality just the same. I know it sounds a bit silly, but I was so happy after putting them up in my bedroom I was ecstatic with my choice once again. Just perfect! They keep out the light, as well as look beautiful with no ironing necessary! There are 2 panels per package and in addition they come with patching pull backs which are an added bonus because it is not mentioned in the description. Don't worry a bit if you are considering these panels, you will not be disappointed.

Yes. They were just what I needed to keep in the heat and to keep out the blistering cold winter winds. Option: Sky Blue/Baby Blue

This was my second purchase of sky-blue drapes. They ARE a beautiful sky-blue. Don't know how else one would describe them. There is no green, yellow or red in the coloring It's all a light/med-light blue. Very much like the images presented. I've purchased 96" and 84" drapes at different times over the last 4 years. There are slight inconsistencies in the length of some panels, but not enough to worry over. In the past, I covered three walls with 9 drapes to create a floor to ceiling bedroom cove around a king bed--it was really beautiful. I recently purchased 6 more sky-blue panels to create another soft wall in my new home. The buyer of our last home loved the decor so much she took it in the sale. These panels work well, keep out the light and have a very soft appearance. Although they are not lined, they do not need it. My favorite part is the tabbing on the back enabling the drapes to be hung as if on hooks--but without the fuss of dealing with hooking systems. Doing so gives the drapes a soft, curvy, higher-end look, unlike smashing them onto a pole. I really hate the pole thing. I think it looks cheap. Wish more manufacturers would take the time to attached tabs onto their drape headers. It would eliminate messing about with hooks and pins! Besides for the price you can make these look fabulous in any home. Floor to ceiling draping even without the windows to cover makes them appear much more high-end, too. You can do that because they are less expensive. So buy more than usual to give a fuller look.

These Insulated Thermal 84-inch Blackout Curtains do exactly what they're meant to do - keep the light out. They also are a nice insulation barrier to the heat and cold air. The variety of colors are impressive. The sun will fade the curtains, but not the visible side facing the room.

So I had these white panel curtains that were supposedly 'black out' curtains in my daughter's room...yeah, not so much. So as much as we loved the white look on her green walls it was time for darker panels to assist with sleepy time. Despite her insistence that the black wouldn't match (which I whole-heartedly agreed with) I ordered these anyway planning to replace the current white grommet ones. Imagine my surprise when I opened the packaging and there were no grommets on these panels! (at this point you chime in- "Dur!!!" you say, "nowhere in the description does it say there are grommets"...and yes, yes you are right...total mis-read/idiocy on my part) So as it turned out this was a perfect situation for me- I was able to take these nicely constructed, heavy-duty blackout panels and pin them easily behind the original white panels. Let me tell you- win-win situation here...white panels are still up on the rod looking airy and beautiful and the black ones are neatly pinned behind the white ones causing a blackout in my daughter's room each night! I would definitely recommend these panels as, like I mentioned, they are well constructed, heavy-weight fabric and definitely do the job for which they were intended.

I love these curtains! I ordered the "pink" curtains for my infant daughters room. She has a very large "Bay" windows (so I had to order two packs), and these curtains are AMAZING! Her room looks like midnight at all hours of the day. I did read some of the reviews before ordering that said that some light is let in, and the only light that comes through is where the seams of the two curtains panels meet. Really - How else can you get rid of that beside sewing the two panels together? My only complaint, and it is not even a complaint, is that the pink color is BRIGHTer then the look color sample on the internet. I was expecting a toned down color, however, the color was very rich and dark, but also had a bright factor (not bright like a neon, but a rich brightness). The curtains are well made and very thick and nice. It helps not only with the light that comes through her very large windows, but also makes her room a constant temperature; no more drafts!! I like them so much, I am coming to replace my son's "Eclipse" curtains with a set of these.

  • Good quality black-out curtains...

    Option: Disc. Beige

The quality, color (beige), and black-out ability are quite good. The only problem I had was that I bought 2 of these for covering one large window and 2 smaller french doors to the outside where the sun hits directly in the afternoon. The 2nd curtain was to be cut in half lengthwise and hemmed to fit these french doors. I set up the cutting and hemming according to the package dimensional descriptions. The problem occurred after everything was hemmed and foudh the width in my case to be off 1/2 inch. I know that does not sould like much, but when you have a hot California sun screaming in your windows and doors in the afternoon, you will see what I mean. I need all of the cloth to cover these 2 doors with an inch hem. Unfortunately, the dimensions on the package ended up 1/2 in off! I had to rip open the seams and resew the new hems leaving 1/2 inch seams this time. No problem except that when you look at them in the sun, you do see the little holes of the former hem. They are beautiful, do block out light well, and do lower the temps a bit. But do not plan any cutting, hemming, etc. without opening up the package and measuring the material yourself before you start on any changes!

I would have given these curtains a much higher rating but after installing them I realized that they didn't seem even on the bottom. I measured and sure enough a couple of the panels (i bought 6) were off by more than an inch. One panel measured 84" on one end and 82&1/2" on the other. Because these curtains are going to be pulled to the side of the window most of the time, and therefore the difference in length is not so visible, I decided not to send them back (too much of a hassle.) Other than that the material is very nice and soft and does block out most of the light when closed.
