I love to remodel, but have never been the laborer in the deal...this backsplash turned out to be a wonderful replacement in my kitchen, as I loathed the 4X4 white tile backsplash with grape cluster accents, coupled with a teal laminate countertop, but I digress... I followed the directions of applying Kilz to the 1/4 inch drywall I had to install after removing the old ceramic tile backsplash. I installed the Aspect tiles in a brick pattern, and made cuts with tin snips. Very little waste, and a week later, no tiles have popped off, even though I used no additional adhesive. I figured I would wait and see how flat the tile would be after my first attempt at fixing the wall in my 1939 bungalow. What a difference, and now I can live with that countertop for a while longer...

  • Looks great- but not as easy as they say!
    Verified Purchase

First- these are really cool and oredring them from Overstock saved me around $50 over Home Depot- so that was great! Although the 14 sq. ft. only did one wall behind the sink up to the cabinets, so it didn't go as far as I hoped. Lessons learned---get heavy duty metal shears, with a flat sharp edge or you will end up with weird edges. Also, you will need a metal file to dull the edges. The package states to use a hack saw, but it was hard to get a straight line- especially for the half piece edges near the wall. Definately use clear construction caulking and a bit more than the package states to get good adhesion on textured walls. Also, I got grey caulking to seal up the bottom edge near the sink. Also, it is hard to cut these close enough to use standard switchplates, so I had to buy oversized and couldn't find the right color to match, so I painted them grey and that worked well. Time: One complete wall behind sink- about 6 ft long up to the cabinets with cutting, took me over 4 hours.

  • The tiles are beautiful once you have it up.
    Verified Purchase

The tiles were beautiful but if your wall isn't even you may have to use some glue on tile and maybe even add a shim or something to even the tile so it sticks to wall. It is very rich looking and have had many compliments.

  • Average Product Expensive Price
    Verified Purchase

Product was easy to install and work with. Just doesnt have the expensive look to justify the price. I had to order twice at $$$ per order to cover my kitchen backsplash. Also the thin protective coating over the face of the tiles was impossible to remove. I got 2 removed out of 240. I just left it on the others. Overall the concept is great but the execution of the tiles looks cheap.

Questions & Answers

  • Q:

"Will magnets adhere to these tiles?"

    • A:

Hi stanchion, these tiles are not magnetic. I hope this helps, thank you for shopping with us.

  • Q:

"Can these be applied over a wood surface?"

    • A:

Thank you for your question crttech. Aspect can be installed over most structurally sound substrates if they are clean, smooth, dry, and free of dust, wax, soap scum and grease. Acceptable substrates are drywall, plaster or clean, smooth tile (glazed, porcelain type tile; not porous or textured). Any damaged, loose or uneven areas must be repaired, patched and leveled. Fill cracks and irregularities with wallboard compound or spackling, then sand smooth with fine-grade sandpaper. The substrate MUST be primed with a fresh coat of high-quality oil-based primer (not acrylic latex, vinyl or PVA-based primer). Applications to PVA-based paints or primers will cause adhesion failure. Occasionally, even after properly preparing the substrate, the surface can still have bows, high spots, ridges or uneven areas. One way to test the area of the substrate where the tile is to be applied is to place a tile (with the back liner unpeeled) on the area to see if it “rocks” or if it has a solid, flat foundation. If proper adhesion is difficult or impossible, a tube adhesive can be applied to the back of the tile to allow good adhesion. If their wood substrate is smooth, flat, not porous, and has been primed, I would recommend using the PL Premium adhesive to ensure the Aspect will adhere over their specific wood substrate. Have a great day.

  • Q:

"What is the difference between long grain(14 sq ft) per kit and short grain(15 sq ft) per kit in description of the product? Why is the sq footage different for the 2 kits? I would like to attain the dual look that is should in the picture on the website for the long grain product, which kit provides this? I need to cover 25 sq ft, what alternative would you suggest other than buying 2 kits?"

    • A:

Hi te12barber12, we were able to verify this information with our support team. Each of the metal finishes is available in either a long or short grain. The difference between the long and short grain tiles is in regards to the direction of the grain. The long grain Aspect tiles have the grain running along the 6'' dimension while the short grain Aspect tiles have the grain running along the 3'' direction. This could be important when a designer pattern is used. The grain textures allow you to create a unique look because light reflects differently from grain patterns, creating beautiful splashes of light. I apologize for the typo, but both kits contain 15 square feet of Aspect tiles. We will update this inside the description promptly. The images shown have all long grain Aspect installed in opposite directions to give you the look of the dual direction. You can also mix the short and long grain Aspect tiles for this effect. We do not offer kits smaller than the 15 sq ft so I would recommend purchasing 2 kits to cover the 25 sq ft. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

  • Q:

"Can you split the kit between short and long grain, making for 7 boxes of Long and 7 boxes of short ?"

    • A:

Unfortunately, the kit cannot be split. It is only sold as described.

  • Q:

"does this peel and stick come in copper?"

    • A:

Unfortunately, we don''t carry this backsplash in copper.

  • Q:

"how many pieces come in each package? how many pieces per square foot?"

    • A:

Each package includes eight 3 inch by 6 inch tiles, enough to cover one square foot.

  • Q:

"Will these tiles work with textured walls?"

    • A:

You would have to sand and smooth the area where they are to be applied. They may not stick well to the texturing.

  • Q:

    "How do you cut these?"

    • A:

go to, click on installation instructions.

  • Q:

"Will this adhere to ceramic tile? I have 4x4 white ceramic tiles I don't want to take down..."

    • A:

You can install the Aspect 3x6 Peel and Stick Tiles over ceramic tile. If installing Aspect over existing ceramic tile, be sure to thoroughly clean old tiles, but priming ceramic tiles is not required. Use isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol two-cloth cleaning method as surface preparation when applying tiles to a nonporous substrate, such as ceramic tile or metal.
