I got this cart to add more working space to my small galley kitchen. Went together very easily in a few hours. It added a lot of storage space too - in the cabinet part I was able to put bread machine, rice cooker, toaster, dog food, small mixer and immersion blender. The drawers are quite deep as well and provide storage for kitchen towels, miscellaneous utensils and dinner napkins. The top of this is very hard wood (rubber wood) and quite nice looking. It has a leaf in the back that you can put up that almost doubles the work ares. The casters are nice and have a locking mechanism. As I had a very specific sized space to put this in I did not attache the towel rack and spice rack to the sides. It measures 43.25 inches wide without these items attached. Overall I am quite pleased with the quality of this and the price was wonderful. It certainly does not look inexpensive, or indeed like something you put together yourself.
Functionality: If you don't mind chips, scratches, and flaws on a piece that is still functional, then perhaps you won't mind this item. It is still newly assembled in my kitchen. Thus far it has been functional, for the most part. I haven't used it yet with the leaf extended, but I have at least tried to extend it, and it looks nice and flat. One cabinet door will not close. There is a magnet that is supposed to holds both doors shut, but one keeps swinging back open. I don't know what causes this. Perhaps the door is warped, or one of the hinges is unevenly attached. Either way, I find a diy solution for the cabinet, because I prefer not to deal with returning it at this point. Overall, I needed this cart for storage, and it has met that need. Service: I think the folks who shipped the cart could do a better job of examining their product before sending it out. Otherwise, I have only great things to say about Overstock Customer Support. When I complained about chips and scratches, they were willing to do whatever it took to make me happy, whether it was order replacement parts, pay for a return pickup, etc. If you are picky about scratches and quality, this may not be the right purchase for you. If you expect flaws, and just need storage, and don't mind this price, then I think you'll be happy with this cart. Either way, I continue to do business with overstock, because their customer service is friendly and fair, and fairly hassle-free. Assembly: The hinges and much of the other hardware come already attached to the parts. For example, you needn't attach the drawer tracks to the veneer housing. There is one moment during assembly when two people were required, otherwise I managed most of it on my own. I'm a fairly small female, and it wasn't really that heavy to stand up and move around. I definitely wouldn't have been able to carry the initial package, so make sure at least two people handle the delivery. Size: The dimensions are exactly as stated. Just a tip if you plan to buy this and use it for silverware: The drawers are too small to house any standard sized silverware organizer. However, the drawers are deep, and can hold plenty of other things.
I cannot begin to tell you how conflicted I was when I was reading the comments about this kitchen cart/ island thing. So many had terrible reviews and experiences saying that the item they received came damaged, missing pieces, had a ton of manufacturing flaws, poor or inadequate instructions and was a total waste of money. The I saw a ton of raving reviews and even photos of people's finished products and it looked so nice! I was so hesitant to put my money and faith in a product that had such mixed reviews. I chose to purchase this cart based on the most RECENT reviews which seemed to be mostly good. And I'm glad I did! First, this thing came so fast! I ordered it on 9/4 realllly late at night and received it on 9/8 in the morning. I had just been sent a shipping confirmation that same morning so I was super surprised to see it at my door so quickly! Also, might I add that the delivery guy is incredibly strong because this box was 123 pounds and he just carried it over his shoulder like it was no biggie. I could barely push that thing across the living room floor. I would like to make a point to say that the final product looks magnificent, BUT I did take the time to review all instructions and make sure all my parts were there first. I also used a little bit of deductive reasoning to work through some small parts of the picture instructions that were a bit confusing. I also put my own handles on the doors and drawers so I feel like it definitely livened the piece up a bit. This took a couple hours to put together with two people working on it. It definitely can be put together with just one person but I think the work time would be closer to three hours. The quality that I received is actually not bad at all. It's obviously not craftsman perfection but for something that is so mass produced I think it is pretty darn nice. There are only a few small things that I noticed about the quality. One of the main things I noticed are that the seams on the doors and fronts of the drawers are not all perfectly flush to one another. Some have bigger gaps in the seams than others. The hinges on the doors are also slightly off so the doors hand a little lopsided. You only noticed this when you're super close up. From far away it looks flawless. Another thing I find kind of strange is the little wooden pieces that are intended for holding the drop leaf in place when it is fully extended. They seem like an afterthought and get in the way of the functionality of the rest of the piece. Like if I kept the wooden piece in its hole, I can't fully open the top drawer. Things like that really annoy me. As you can see from the picture, I actually took the extendable leaf and turned it into a shelf that I installed right above the cart. I knew I wasn't going to pull the cart out from against the wall so it seems pointless to have the drop leaf there if it was never going to get used. I think it looks fantastic and really makes my new cart look like it belongs in that space. So for anyone looking to purchase this item. I think it's worth the risk. I found it to be a wonderful addition to my kitchen and I couldn't be happier right now :)
We were disappointed with this purchase and chose to return for a refund because of the following items. The packaging was not sufficient to prevent damage to the item. Several pieces were damaged. The high gloss finish was not applied consistently leaving edges of the product with a rough uneven look. As we examined the pieces that came out of the first box, we found a fly baked right into the finish. Other pieces also had foreign material baked into them which hinted at a poor quality control for this product. We were so disappointed that we requested to return this product for a refund.
I was very impressed by the quality of this kitchen cart...especially for the cost!! I have seen similar items in stores for $500+ and not nearly as nice as this cart. The leaf provides an excellent added surface area which I just used for serving up a buffet style dinner for some guests at our home. Made our dining room table more open and roomy for our friends to visit without the table being so cluttered. Because it is on wheels, it made it very easy to bring the buffet set up next to the table so I could easily pass plates to the guests. This item was packaged very well and arrived damage free. Pretty easy to put together...my wife & I did so in about 1 hour of time. The savings of $200 made having to assemble this well worth the effort!! Thanks O.co!!
Everything arrived package very well and nothing came scratched or damaged and after a rocky start to assembly, this cart turned out pretty great! The small screws (F, I think) that are provided to attach hinges connecting the cart top to the leaf were absolute junk! Several of them broke off at the head leaving the rest of the screw still in the wood. You can see this in the photos. This is unacceptable! After 2 visits to the hardware store to get stronger, thicker screws the rest of the assembly went fairly easy with a few steps in odd order. Also be careful to thoroughly clean whatever work space you are using for assembly. I must have had some unseen dirt on my floor and with all the headache attaching the top, there are now small scratches in the top that need to buffed out. I would maybe recommend putting a sheet down if you have hardwood floors like me. There are some other odd things with the construction of this cart that I would change if I could: the drawers are shallow and there is wasted space (seems to be the case on all furniture from China these days) and the spice rack is not a full shelf. There is a several inch gap between the bottom of the shelf and the cart....it's very odd! On a positive note: I cannot understand why so many people complain about the leaf not staying up. I'm guessing they did not put the pieces for the leaf on correctly? There are two square wooden pieces that pull out to hold the leaf up. They are very sturdy and the leaf is perfectly flat. You are supposed to attach 2 dowels pointing down to the ends of the supports so that they don't slide all the way back inside the cabinet when the leaf is down. I'm guessing those having issues are putting them in backwards? It's common sense, people...But when you have very little storage space in your kitchen and no counter space, this thing is pretty fantastic despite the difficulties. I can now actually prepare meals without knocking everything on the floor!
I am quite pleased with this cart. The wood top is easy to clean, the red is nice and cheery, and it adds lots of storage to my tiny kitchen. I love using the raised drop leaf when we need extra prep space! It took my husband and I 3-4 hours to assemble, and we're both handy people. Not difficult by any means, just lots of steps. The only downside is that the drawers are narrow but deep, so it took me a little while to figure out what to store in them. Overall, I am still very pleased with this purchase.
Very easy to put together and looks quite nice in my kitchen. The shelf side is very roomy and the drawers are deep. Functional and beautiful! I have the black with the natural wood top and the silver knobs. Love it!
This was exactly what we needed for extra storage and work space in our new-to-us tiny kitchen. Excellent product for the price. The only complaint my husband had was with the directions, that being that the drawings were not clear enough on some of the screws and he had to remove some and replace with the correct ones. Otherwise, it went together fine. (Over 40 eyesight needs larger/darker print on the directions.) Features - a towel rack/handle on the one end. We chose to use this to hold a roll of paper towels, so as to get the roll off our countertop. Would look very nice with your hand towels as another option. Have not really found a use for the spice rack on the other end, due to the design of that part, and the spice bottles I have are too small for that purpose. I am sure something will find a home there in time. There are three drawers. I am choosing to put extra cooking utensils in one, food storage bags in another, and hot pads in the third. In the main compartment I have placed a slow cooker, mixing bowls, cutting boards, cookie sheets, and a few smaller items. The wood top is very nice and the expanding capability of it with the drop leaf is very helpful to me when preparing meals with the limited amount of permanent counter space in our kitchen. We had no problems with shipping. The product is well packaged in multiple boxes and then in a large exterior box encompassing all. So unless there is a huge gouge in the exterior box, I would not be concerned at all if there is a small tear, rip, or minor crease in the outer packaging. The package is extremely heavy (over 100 pounds), so it will be helpful if you have the delivery person bring it inside for you (if you are home when it arrives) or if you have a second person available to help you maneuver it inside your door. All-in-all, I think you will be very pleased with this cart once you have it assembled.
THIS WAS AN AWESOME FIND!! it was pretty easy to put together, took 2 people 2.5 hours and used a cordless screwdriver, instructions were easy to read and understand, and the cart is a BEAUTIFUL addition to our kitchen!! The box is heavy , so make sure 2 people lift it, this is a sturdy well constructed kitchen island, with deep drawers and good storage in the cabinet. Red is a beautiful deep color. Only down fall I see is the spice rack will only hold large spices as there is an open space (not solid,1 piece bottom) on the bottom shelf, but we put salt, pepper, and large garlic powder, and onion powder in it, not the smaller spices, we use the towel rack as a paper towel holder (wonderful). I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a kitchen island!
Love this island cart. I got the Red as it goes great in my kitchen. Easy to put together but I left the ends off. The paper towel holder & Spice rack, as I need the space to get around it. I Love the extra storage space and the drop leaf on top.
Love this kitchen cart! I have it in black and it looks really nice and instantly adds extra storage space. It's a beautiful wood finish for the countertop! My boyfriend assembled it for me in a few hours time and he said it wasn't too difficult. You can use with the wheels or without, you can also leave the spice rack and towel rack off if you choose and it would look fine.
I order this kitchen cart to add a little extra storage and counter top space in the kitchen. Overall, it’s a fairly nice item but, it has certain down sides.... Pros: 1. Well made and looks very nice. 2. Instructions were fairly clear and straight forward. 3. Didn’t take the 3 hours to put together that the manufacturer suggests, took about half the time. FYI, I’ve put a lot of these kind of things together so I have a little more experience than your average bear. 4. Well packaged. Alot of the set up time was trying to get everything unwrapped and out of the box, which I didn’t mind a bit. 5. Includes a little bag of extra parts in case you lose one during construction. 6. The casters on the bottom are very nice and let the island move around with ease. There are also 2 casters that have locks on them so it can’t move. Cons: 1. First and foremost, the drawers are very tiny and relatively useless. I really wanted to put aluminum foil and plastic wrap in one of the drawers. They won’t fit. I can get them to fit diagonally, but that’s just plain inconvenience. Drawers need to be about 1 inch longer to fit a box of aluminum foil. Instead we just put dish towels in there. 2. The drawers don’t pull out very far. But, like I said above, they’re tiny to begin with. 3. There are 2 braces for the foldable leaf that sit in holes inside the cabinet. The one brace sits in the hole perfect and doesn’t get in the way at all. The other brace sits in a hole, inside the top drawer. (Yes, I do have a vendetta against these drawers.) The brace in the top drawer gets in the way when you open the drawer and it falls out. I’ve removed the brace and placed it in the large cabinet and will just use it as needed. 4. The shelf that in the large cabinet seems a little on the thin side and is held up by 4 plastic tabs. I will more than likely buy some metal shelf hanger tabs. This could possibly never be an issue, but it depends on what you put on the shelf. We have a kitchen aid mixer on the shelf at the moment due to the fact it is a very tight fit when placed on the bottom shelf. Overall, for the price point, this is a pretty nice kitchen cart. If you don’t mind a few little issues, then this is perfect. Definitely beats paying 1000$. I would definitely consider buying this again, although I may look for something that has more useful drawers.
This island cart fits the budget and need perfectly! It's the right size, accommodates the space, and the gray color with contrasting butcher block drop leaf compliments the decor of the kitchen very nicely. The drop leaf also gives me just the extra preparation area that is needed, and the locking casters work well!
This kitchen cart gave me the extra space for storage and seating for my kitchen. I had the wheels taken off and the cart placed on a 2 x 4 stand. Wanted it to look like it was built in. It looks beautiful and I love it.
Very nice island cart. Changed the knobs and I just love it. It rolls easily and has good storage. Fold down leaf is a huge plus as it increases work surface to thirty inches.
Took the end pieces off. The towel rack and spice holder made it too big for my kitchen. Not super high quality build but good for the price and I love using it.
I purchased this island after moving to a 1 bedroom apartment in NYC. The kitchen was small and had very little counter space. I had a nook right outside the kitchen that was perfect for an island. This is perfect for people who do have some room outside the kitchen to place this island, as it is not small. The materials are all sturdy and nice. The butcher block is really nice and heavy. I didn't add the spice rack or the towel holder because I didn't need it but it's good to know I can always add them later. The assembly truly takes a long time but it's worth it.
I put it together in 3 hours. The instructions were good and the pieces fit (some reviews indicated problems with instructions and fit but I didn't have any issues - those problems were corrected for my unit). The top is 43" wide, you don't have to put on the spice rack or towel rack. I only installed the spice rack (they can go on either side). The racks extend another 4.75" beyond the edge of the top. The front edge sticks out 19.5" from the wall, though I probably could push it closer (this is with the extension down). One installation piece broke but the instructions have info to email about that. I got a prompt response indicating a replacement would arrive in a week. Doesn't roll as well as I'd like but I'm not going to move it often.
I got the grey. Very nice color. Cool blue grey color. It took a bit of time to assemble (about 2-2.5 hrs. on my own) - I highly recommend using a power tool if you have one. This helped cut time down. I found a few knicks and scratches, but truthfully for the cost I am happy with it. I didn’t have major issues like others and it was packaged fairly well. Any damage to a drawer or piece was done before packaging. Overall it seems like it will hold up. If it doesn’t I will be changing my review. A few items seem flimsy. Like The inside shelf doesn’t seem sturdy, I will probably keep empty jars and light “stuff” on it or not use it. The back wall of this piece is also thin and flimsy. Wish it was a thicker piece of material or wood. I love the drop leaf option. Great for more prep space and/or eating. It doesn’t seem like it will bare a lot of weight but most drop leafs don’t. I will change the hardware/knobs on it. And I wish they provided cover buttons for those who do not use the side rack option. I need to fill those or something. Overall it is functional for what I need. It seems like it will hold up well for a piece that is not made of real wood except the top. Future plans: turn it into a rolling bar. Take doors off and have it an open bar look. Put some stemware racks and fill it up with booze!
