I've always wanted a french press and I was not disappointed. I saved the carafe from my old coffee maker and when the coffee is done, I pour it into that. That way, the coffee doesn't soak with the grinds and I have the press washed for the next pot. One tip I found, pour just enough hot (just below boiling) water into the press and let the grinds "bloom" for 30 seconds or so, then pour the rest of the water in. This makes such nice smooth, non bitter coffee. I'm a fan.
I am having a difficult time getting my coffee ground to the right consistency, I guess. I have heard so much about the smoothness of coffee that's been made in a French press, but honestly...I just don't get it. Maybe if a professional coffee preparer was making my coffee....but it's just me, and frankly, my automatic drip is faster and just as good. But I've only experimented with mine a few times, and for only *** or so, it was worth trying out.
The lamp is very nice. The only mention is the glass is not solid or clear. It's a smooth glass but has a design in it. Sort of rake marks/lines. It's difficult to describe. As always, Overstock delivered very speedily. It was well packaged and I am enjoying it.
