I was so happy that my needless worry over if I had done the right thing by ordering this urn for my dear father was the right choice. It was just as the description stated and I had alternate plans(his old tacklebox) if the workmanship did not live up to its description. My dad knew wood and craftsmanship and I worried how I could put his ashes into an inferior wooden urn. He was a perfectionist when it came to his own quality woodworking,;he was a proud carpenter and craftsman. Dad would have liked this simple but elegant urn. It arrived in 2 days!! I would have liked it if Overstock could have provided engraving services for an additional cost.
The urn is is natural, tactile, smooth and weighty. It will make a lovely keepsake to remember my beloved grandparents by. I'm very happy with it. The presentation box is another matter. From the pic online I expected it to be blue - it's brown. It's also cheap and nasty I'm very sorry to say. The fabric is poor quality, the base is frayed, one hinge is grey the other brown and there's clearly been a large sticker peeled off the top as it's left an ugly mark. Whilst the urn is lovely the presentation box lowers the overall quality and value.
I held off purchasing the matching keepsake urns until I saw this large one in person, as there are understandably no returns. I can be pretty fussy and one can never really tell the quality of a product from pictures they see online; this urn looked beautiful in the photos. When I received my order I was so impressed as I took it out of the packing. The materials and craftmanship are of high quality - not look like the "mass-produced" items I often see in even high end department stores. The brass is smooth and shinny; I don't see any of the "tooling" marks like on lesser quality brass items. The mother of pearl inlay is perfectly set. I will be placing my order for the keepsake urns today! This urn was chosen for my precious mother, and it took me several months to find one that meet my criteria: elegant but simple, affordable, and "un-urnlike" in appearance. (It is so very "UN-urnlike" looking that my daughter took it out of the box, unaware the purpose for it, and created a beautiful arrangement on the mantel along with family photos and fresh flowers!!) This urn could be used to hold the ashes of a loved one of any gender.
I wasn't sure about this urn at first because the picture shows what look to be cracks. Upon exam, these are natural fissures in the marble and add a depth of character to this already beautiful urn. This urn is really heavy-it's made from one big piece of marble! They call it teakwood marble and it really seems to have the look of wood grain to it. The subtle shading goes perfect in our earth tone living room.
