I have been looking for an old fashioned ice bag for a while, but apparently they aren't sold in drug stores any more. The new gel pack are OK, but the cold doesn't last long and I didn't think you could take them onto an airplane. However an ice bag that you fill up once past security is OK. I used a ziplock bag in a pinch, but they don't form as nicely to the body. This ice bag serves its purpose and is long lasting. I guess these fell out of practice because I guess you could get too cold from them. But if you do what I do and fill with ice and water you'll have no problem.
This is the kind of instant cold pack with Ammonium Nitrate, so it's super fast acting. The 5.75x9 is bigger than the smaller ones so it gets colder longer, and it's just the thing you need when you go camping to fend off heat stroke! Bring a couple of these, wrap it around a towel and apply to the head and neck to bring core temps down! Remember to sip water not gulp when overheating!
