I purchased these for our summer campers. I tried one first at home, so we wouldn't be surprised with its performance when we had to use the first one on a hurt camper. Much to my happiness, the cold pack was definitely cold!
In the hospital they use a device similar to this one. After working out my knee, they applied the ice pack for swelling in my knee. This system continually runs ice cold water over the knee but when you go home, you have to come up with your own way of an ice pack. This Machine keeps your knee cooled down for hours without you doing nothing except for filling the compartment with some water and ice. Sit back and relax.
This was the best deal I could find for these cold packs that hospitals usually supply for the new moms to use to reduce swelling after giving birth. With just a pop and a shake you have instant cold in an absorbent pad about the size of a large menstrual pad. If you have some left over, just use them in place of a traditional ice pack, like for a sore neck or sprained ankle.
I really like the fact that I can place it on my ankle, while resting my foot upon a stool, and it doesn't slide off as fast as those with a sleek exterior. So, the rough exterior is a good thing. I just wish it stayed colder longer. I need to use twice as many as another Instant Ice Pack - that I cannot find anymore. So, I'm careful when using these. If I'm going to need to ice something for more than 15 minutes, and I'm home, I'll just go grab a bag of frozen corn! Still useful when 'on-the-go'. As I stated in the "Quality" section, I will probably look online for another brand when I need more. Does keep really cold for about 15 minutes.
