This was a very wise purchase. It saved us more than $600.00, and that was the cost of a used instrument! The saxaphone was slightly out of tune when we received it, but that is to be expected for a new instrument. If you're buying it, have your child's band director tune the instrument before playing. We are very pleased. rb
My daughter had been using my Armstrong flute that I played 20 years ago and all the pads were bad. I bought this one as it was less expensive than fixing the pads on my old flute. It is a beautiful looking instrument. It is lighter than the old one, and probably is not made as durable, but for the price of this one it is great. You can buy one like my old one or 5 of these. It sounds beautiful, comes with a year warranty, and looks very nice. Mydaughter even was offered to play a solo as one of the other girls in the bands flute sounded poor and out of tune. You are not going to get the quality of a $500 flute, but you will get a great first instrument or one for an elementary or middle schooler. Very pleased Mom and daughter.
I bought this instrument for my 9 year old daughter as she begins to learn saxophone. Her teacher said it is okay for the first year or two of learning an instrument which is pretty much what I had anticipated. In my area, buying this is pretty much equivalent to renting it for a year so it serves its purpose.
I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my 11 year old to use in his first year of band. I figured it would be cheaper then continuing to rent an instrument since he plans to take band again in 7th grade. This is a nice looking instrument and it comes in a gorgeous bag, but I've already had to have it repaired twice due to sound and key problems. Unfortunately, repairs are not cheap....at least when you rent they are covered in the rental. Hopefully we finally have it up and running for awhile; my son likes it but it definitely does not play smoothly nor is the sound the best. I will do all I can to keep it going until he finishes band next year and if he continues I will need to make a smarter investment. It is a good starter instrument and would recommend giving it a shot, but be prepared for small repairs along the way.
