I am a recreational/just for myself and a few friends drummer; that is, until my congenital spine deformity caused my spine to age from 21 years old to 65 within the span of about 10 years (the result of severe DDD). I did have your basic, round toadstool throne, but the pain that used to reside primarily in my cervical and thoracic spine has moved farther south, thusly, making the old throne intolerable. The Gibraltar 9608mb Bike Style "Large"-- as they put it, but I would call it "Opulently Over-sized"-- Cordura Drum Throne is magnificently comfortable, has superior back support--which is fully adjustable to suit your needs, and is so confidently sturdy that its strong tripod legs seem to defy the laws of physics in regards to their strength to space consumed (which is minimal) ratio. My verdict: If you've got a bad back but you still want to jam, snag this throne with the back rest!
These Pearl Powershifters have a nice, smooth action. However, there are a few design flaws that limit its effectiveness. First, the single chain is problematic and not very sturdy. Second, the screw the attaches the pedal to the bass drum hoop is too high, and bangs into the footboard during play. I ended up returning it and going with another brand, dw. However, the pedal arrived quickly, and would be a good pedal for a starter.
