The Power Tank is a great option for any astronomer who wants to take their scope further away from their vehicle than their cord can stretch. It also prevents you from depleting your car battery and possibly getting stuck somewhere in the middle of the night with a dead battery. It would probably work well for car camping for the same reason. I live in a forest and can't observe at home, so the power tank lets me get to places away from the lights of cars and buildings that my car can't get to. There's multiple voltage power outlets depending on what your device uses in addition to the two cigarette lighter outputs. The power input has multiple plug adapters to work in various countries across the world and tucks away into a compartment. The main light is great for setting up a campsite or something, but the red light is better for dark acclimation for astronomers. The radio isn't exactly spectacular, but who's really buying this thing for the on-board radio. There's even jumper cables to start a dead car. If you use a more energy-hungry telescope (or other device) the 17-amp will definitely last much longer than the smaller version. At any rate, it's a good value and because its so portable, you'll probably get a lot of use out of it. Like any battery, you should keep the unit charged as instructed in the directions to ensure long battery life.
