  • Surprise to find a DVD recorder still available.

The first thing was the hook up. I did it just like the diagram showed and found that it wouldn't allow us to watch another channel while it was recording. I installed a splitter (Y) into the cable from the wall and to the TV. The recorder still did what it was supposed to and we could watch another channel through switching the TV.

I have now used my DVD recorder for several weeks. I purchased it because it had a tuner and RF connections so that I could record off TV. The system works perfectly. My recorded copies looks very good very near HD. I am happy with no issues.

This recorder is to supplement/replace my toshiba DMR-ES20 Recorder. This recorder still runs well, but I wanted to be able to record addititonal shows at the same time. This new recorder seems to do the trick. My favorite feature is the auto-finializing feature. It is such a great feature to have the recorder finialize the DVD once all records are done or the disc is full. Saves me time waiting for it to finalize before ejecting the disc out, like the Toshiba does. The other nice thing is this has a digital tuner. This allows me to use this to get all the digitial stations in my area. I'm disappointed it doesn't get the digital stations from Time Warner. Their digital must be a propriatary signal, because I only get the local stations that are digital. Recording quality is the same as the Toshiba, and uses the same recording speeds. The interesting thing with this unit is that it shows the available recording time for each speed setting, and some of the speeds show 1:01 or 6:04. I'm wondering if this unit is more efficient with its recording and finialization so that it has extra minutes to spare. The one concern with this unit is that it lost it's time overnight. It has the complete wrong time. I had that autotiming setting to auto, and I'm guessing the station it found time information from was wrong? I turned this feature to manual, and manually tuned in the PBS station in my area. It seems to keep time since then. I'll be keeping an eye on this. Otherwise I'm very pleased with this unit.

I'm not an electronics geek, so to me this is an excellent piece of equipment. It took me a hour to hook it up because of all the the wires from other equipment, Wii, cable, surround sound etc. The recorder records an excellent picture and has some really good features. The manual could be a little less technical for my taste. I didn't know all the types of DVD's that were available or the difference between 480i and 1080i. But after a few days playing with it, I love it.

I'll admit it was a bit confusing (instructions aren't that good) to install the machine, but once done I found it very easy to operate and the picture is excellent! The Timer Recording is very easy to program with excellent results. In a nut shell, I am extremely happy with this purchase & am more than happy to recommend!

  • Best DVD Recorder in the market!

I Bought this dvd recorder to replace the VCR, having issues with my plasma tv recording with VHS, that is why I upgrade. Got it a month ago, kind hesitate because the clock issues in others site reviews, but I been recording for a month already without any issue and also no issues with the clock. (recording tv shows over the air) the tuner is not best, but at least pickup 20 to 28 analog and digital channels. Also I used to transfer old VHS movie to DVD, quality no complain, better than VHS. The 1080p upcovertinf great,! like the others reviews at amazon about the color of the letter and number in the remove control terreble...and of course it take is own time to load the disk, but the normal and many DVD player. I'm please with this product. I recomended this product!

I gave this to my son as a gift. He said it is pretty easy to use and the picture quality is good. He wanted to be able to record tv programs off his tv for later viewing.
