  • NEVER buy a Sony!!
    Verified Purchase

I will never buy another Sony product again, no matter how long I live! I made the mistake of buying a HDR-CX190 camcorder, expecting that it would come like every other camera or camcorder I've ever bought -- with everything needed for basic operation of the device. It, however, does not come with the memory card needed to use the camcorder for any purpose other than paperweight. The digital still photo camera I bought a couple of years ago came with a memory card and so was usable straight out of the box; the older mini-VHS camcorder that I bought this one to replace came with two tapes and so was ready to use out of the box; but you obviously think it is acceptable to sell items that cannot be used without buying something else first. I think that this practice is dishonest and deceitful, and reflects a gross contempt for and abuse of customers by Sony. I called to complain, and the only "remedy" offered was to place an order for a memory card, which I did with extreme reluctance as the only way that I will ever be able to use the camcorder. I do not, however, consider this a genuine remedy, and will challenge the payment with my card carrier as soon as the memory card arrives on the basis that this "purchase" was made under duress and should be considered as a form of extortion. And make no mistake: that is exactly what Sony is doing, not just to me but to everyone else who buys their camcorders!
