My trusty old Epson scanner suddenly gave up the ghost after more than 7 years just as a large scanning project was to begin. My new V600 stepped right in. The new software was very similar to my previous version, so there was a minimal learning curve. The scanner lid is 90-degrees from the previious one, giving me more open desk space and bringing the onboard controls closer. The only downside is common to most every scanner of this size, a recessed glass scanning surface. Many times I get early 1900's mounted photographs that are larger than the bed size. This requires multiple scans of a slightly bent object and time spent putting the pieces together. If absolute sharpness is not necessary, the glass from my old scanner comes to the rescue. Wish there was a 4.5 rating!!
Used an earlier EPSON scanner for years and it worked well. I like the fact that my new 570 has a removable lid. I regret that the complete software installation loads unneeded programs but I guess that keeps the price down.
Every print, negative, document I challenge my Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner with seems to improve them exponentially! I bought a refurbished unit, and so far I've noticed no difference from a brand new unit. The scans are crisp, and the included software provides every control I've needed. Granted, the scans sometimes take up to 20 or more minutes, but that isn't a concern to me; while good quality, crisp scans are.
I purchased to update an older Epson scanner I have had for many years and would have continued to use if it would have worked with my new laptop. The V600 was easy to set up and has worked fairly well. It has locked up a couple of times. Also I have found it does not scan all size negatives easily.
