I used this SYBA controller card to connect a Vertex 3 SSD to an older AMD system. The transfer rate went from the mid 200 Mbps on the onboard SATA II up to over 400 Mbps read and 340Mbps write. The ASMedia controller on this card is much faster than competing cards with the Marvell 9125 controller. I ran some benchmarks on a card with the Marvell 9125 and the read speed was about the same as on the ASM1061 at 410Mbps but the write speed clocked in at only 220Mbps. Unfortunately the included driver is not up to date and will not provide you with the best performance. Thanks to station-drivers.com I was able to find a newer ASM1061 driver v.1.3.1 that improved the transfer rate by about %.

SSD users should note that this product is PCI-E 2.0 x1. A gen 1.0 or 1.1 mobo slot will cap speed at 250 MBs, real world throughput around 150-180 MBs. An x4 or higher solution should be used on 1.0 or 1.1 boards. In the correct slot the product is acceptable, but you may not be able to find newer drivers. It can also be run in IDE mode with the Microsoft standard ACHI driver. Syba support is is limited, and ASMedia support doesn't exist.
