I was trying to decide between this or a mirrored lens. I decided to try this so I would be able to change the aperture in different lighting situations. I made the right choice. I am very happy with my new Rokinon 500mm x 1000mm telephoto lens. At first I was nervous about picture quality; I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the sharpness and clarity of the photos taken with this lens. It is best to use a tripod. You do need to make sure that you have the object in focus. The 1st day I used the lens a Red Wing Blackbird flew up and landed on a bush just a few feet away and I was able to experiment with the 500 and the 2x converter. With the 2x converter I had to back up an additional 5 to 10 feet to be able to get the whole bird in the frame. And the 2x converter is better than the doublers I have tried in the past. For the price this lens would be hard to beat.

  • Great value

I used my new lens for the first time today on my Pentax ist DL. I am really impressed with the quality of both the lens build and the pictures I took with it. The conditions were far from ideal - Shooting a black bear in rain/snow shooting into trees but the images were bright and very sharp. You do need to use a tripod with this lens as it's all metal construction makes it quite heavy and hard to hold steady, but with a tripod it's great. It's not suitable for professional photographers but for an enthusiastic amateur like myself it would take a LOT more money to beat this lens. I would definitely recommend it, and am delighted with my purchase.

Just starting this expensive hoby. This lens is very inexpensive. The photographs it produces are not the best, however if you are not trying to sell your photos and they are just for collection, they are not too bad. It's fun to use such a long lens but someday I hope to be able to afford a really good, sharp one.Neophyte photographer

I have a Pentax K10D and wanted a lense that would take descent pictures at a distance. I shopped the Pentax web site and the prices they ask for there lenses is unbelievable. I purchased the Rokinon 500mm x 1000mm telephoto lense, tried it for a couple of days and the quality of pictures was just amazing. very clear pictures, but I do have to say you will need a tripod to shoot with this lense. The quality of the lense is exactly as they say, it is made of all metal including the ring. This is two lenes in one 500mm or 1000mm you choose your options. I am very pleased with the lense and am sure if you purchse this lense you will also be pleased. Having lots of fun with this lense and getting great clear pictures and shooting objects at a very long distance. It is a manuel lense and you will need a good eye for focus. Friends of mine have also purchased this lense and are also very happy with it. I am not a professional photogragher, but you don't need to be one to take a great picture and see one..

I had a need for a long range telephoto lens for my Pentax K10D so I thought I would give this lens a try. I chose this over a mirrored lens so I could adjust the depth of field. It has been an excellent lens. When attached to my Pentax without the extension tube, the camera asks for the focal length at power up. I chose 500mm and the shots are great.Easy to adjust and easy to adjust light level with ring control. The light level is a little loose so it doesn't take much to change light levels but if your careful, it isn't a problem. My first use of this lens was at an outdoor concert at dusk. I couldn't be more pleased.Excellent Lens and Excelent Value
