The basic router functions are fairly easy and solid. However, the VPN section is tough. I spent hours working with D-Link Business support trying to figure it out. It finally came down to using IKEv2 in the IPsec protocol setup. The Windows 7 VPN client is IKEv2, but isn't mentioned anywhere in Windows. Then magically all the other settings we were collectively beating our heads about worked! There are continuing issues with in coming connections from some remote locations, but others work perfectly. I believe it has to do with issues at those locations. Working on it. The only other issue is every time you want to enter the router you get a certificate warning in IE 11. You just continue, but it is a pain to deal with especially for something that should have been fixed long ago. We were using a D-Link DIR-655 before, so I reworked it into a wireless access point only, and that allowed us to purchase the wired only DSR-250 at about $60 less than the wireless version.
Had this router/switch combo for about 1 month now. First step (as always) was to update the firmware. Downloaded the file, uploaded to the RV325, reset it: done. Next set up the network itself - set up everything including the DMZ in about 10 minutes. One thing you do need to be aware of with this machine, is you need to reset it after you have made changes or they are not being executed. As a more industrial grade router that is to be expected but it is not obvious if you have been using the more consumer grade which nags about performing a reset. The switch component is fast and also no effort to set up. I am quite impressed with the set and forget functionality of the RV325 and would highly recommend it if you want a non-wireless router.
I have my TV mounted above my fireplace, and didn't want wires from my cable box and other components sticking out all over the place (and didn't feel like investing in a mantle to hold them!). These work perfectly. Granted, the components are only about 6 feet away, but the picture is crystal clear in HD. The only thing I'm struggling with is the IR so that the remote signal carries to the components when my media cabinet is closed, but it's not the end of the world. It seems a bit finicky, but I'll either figure it out, or keep the door open when I'm lounging.
Fast shipping with great packaging. This is a great server with everything as described in the specs. The picture online did show it with an IBM logo but it Actually had a Lenovo label. However it has the IBM BIOS and system management software. Overall a great buy.
