The Epson Artisan 1430 has been printing excellent 8 1/2 x 11 prints. There were problems getting it set up to our WiFi. So we used the usb cable instead. Still need to learn to use more of the printers features......
It is getting very hard to find a 'stand alone printer.' Many will understand why I prefer a printer to be just a printer. I just replaced an Epson Stylus Photo 900 after 14 years of excellent service with the Artisan 1430. If it weren't for the 'long lasting image' ink used over the years in the 900 that machine could go on and on. That 'long lasting photo' ink hardened too much and eventually clogged the print heads. If the machine provided for access for mechanically cleaning the print heads the 900 would last another 14 years! The Artisan 1430 is essentially the same quality level with the addition of Large Format printing. I have used it for a few weeks now and am very happy with another Epson quality, high end consumer printer. The Artisan 1430 is great! This is also the opinion of professional Printer Repair shops; "the 1400 series has been great!" The set up was easy with the exception that unlike the 900 which could be plugged into the computer using USB or into the Mac Time Machine Wi-Fi hub with no special set up, the 1430 required 'set up' for both the USB connection and again for the 'wireless' connection to be recognized by the Time Machine Wi-Fi. Short of a continuous daily duty requirement, this has got to be one of the world's best printers! It sits next to the 2400 Flat Bed scanner which is still solid after 14 years as well.
I still do not have my Brother printer set up. It required phonecalls and getting extra expensive usb connectors and extensions for the phone cord. Also, the instructions are almost useless, no written explanation of how to remove the guards on the cartridges. But I am glad I was able to get the store credit to partically pay for it.
