This unit is my fourth epson printer. Prints are incredibly good for this price range and even higher! Only one con and it may be a big one to you, ink cartridges are huge with very small reservoirs. EPSON'S decision to over-charge for cartridges while making them smaller in capacity & coding new chips to ATTEMPT to prevent the use of NON-epson inks and cartridges. Luckily refillable and ciss will work with the new version so EPSON managed to just loose 1 star. EPSON this is NOT the right direction to follow.
My old wide-bed printer gave up the ghost Friday afternoon, sending me in desperation to the local OfficeMax looking for a replacement. The salesman recommended the Artisan 1430, so I took his word for it and made the purchase. Took it back to the office, installed the drivers in the computer, hooked it up and finished up the color printing that needed to be done before the weekend. Everything went smoothly, a painless transition. The color quality straight out-of-the-box was at least as good as my old printer â€" I didn’t give it another thought. Saturday morning I went in early and decided to fine-tune the computer/printer color settings. I tinkered around a bit and decided to print out a photo of an oil painting by one of our area artists, put in 13 X 19-inch high quality glossy photo paper, hit the “printâ€ button and enjoyed sipping on my Morning Joe while the printer did its thing. When it was through, went over to see the results and could not believe my eyes: Gorgeous color! Depth of detail! Stunning visual impact! All the elements I liked in the original artwork I finally saw in an inkjet printout. Spent the rest of the day experimenting with different papers and settings, and concluded the Artisan 1430 is a good overall inkjet printer. But! It really excels with high-gloss photo paper. It earns every one of those five stars in my rating.
From past reviews I expected to unpack the printer, set it up and be able to print. Took almost to days to get the Wi-Fi working. Epson support spent over 5 straight hours with me to resolve the problem. The instructions are very vague. Now that I have printed a few photos I now have to figure out how to eliminate lines on the prints from the feeder. It is not a continous feed, more a sequential feed to the point where you can see the hesitation of the feed on the prints. You must print on Epson stock (not a bad thing). Tried left-over HP stock and got very poor quality images. Went to the Epson Ultra Premimun ... what a difference. I am happy that I can now print larger format prints (up to 11x17 or roll stock). Once I work out the feed problem I'll be complete. Very reasonable price for the unit. With easier installation I would have rayed 4 1/2 stars. Tech Support rates 5 stars! Will submit another review in about 30 days. Perhaps the overall rating will increase.
My first C88+ was purchased in March 2009. It performed well up to a few weeks ago. After doing the self help instructions and talking with a tech rep. I was advised to have the print head replaced or purchase a new printer. I was very pleased with the C88+ performance and purchased a new one. Besides good performance I had made a recent purchase of ink cartridges so that and the price influenced my choice. I gated the C88+ as good (4 stars) because there was no 4.8 rating. I recommend this printer.
