I have had this scanner for about 2 months. I have scanned about 2500 slides so far and have generally been very satisfied. BUT, occasionally I find one or two vertical lines across the resulting digital picture, on both portrait and landscape pictures. It is most noticeable on slides with a lot of blue sky, or other areas of solid color. I cannot see this on the originals with a jeweler's loop so I think it occurs in the scanner. Perhaps a light leak or reflection? Epson has replaced my original scanner but I continue to see this effect on the new one. So far my solution is to rescan at another time. Does anyone else see this and have a solution?
I had an Hp flatbed and use a Macintosh computer as I am a retouching artist. The Hp was OK but they neglected to update the software with Apple's penchant for constant OS improvements. I looked for a new scanner and looked to Epson since I have 3 of their printers and have been happy with performance and support. The epson is elegant in design and the software well supports its features. I like the location of the controls and even though it seems like a small thing, I really like that the lid stays up when you open it. When you are positioning multiple pieces of artwork on the glass it frees up both hands to do the work. The resolution is great and warm up time is minimal.
I purchased new, an epson 1430 Artisan printer and set up was easy as expected. I did a nozzle check and the head(s) were clogged. I cleaned heads NUMERIOUS TIMES to no avail. I now have cleaning fluid injected into the ports and am hoping this resolves the issue.
This scanner is a replacement for a 10-year-old ScanSnap fi-5110E02. The major difference between it and my old scanner is speed and an improved paper feed. The software is essentially the same (I was using S1500 software) and the end result is also close to the same as the fi scanner. Pictures are better with the new scanner. I give this scanner the highest marks. One issue that did arise was that the site to download the Nuance PDF Converter software has been down. For me this is not a problem since I have both Nuance PDF Converter Pro and Adobe Acrobat.
