Does an excellent job scanning transparencies and negatives but transparency light in lid is only 2.9'' X 9.5". You can not scan full 8" X 10" contact sheets with this scanner, you must upgrade to the V700 to be able to do that. I didn't catch this in the specifications before i bought it and ended up giving it away and buying the V700. Disappointing... my old Epson Perfection 4990 Photo scanned 8" X 10" transparencies and negatives before its belt mechanism broke.
I bought this printer to print 8 x 11 photos. I'm not a pro but this printer is great for me. Good colors and little distortion. Ink usage seems good too. Not fast but easy to print one photo at a time. Haven't tried to print a larger size. So far so good. I like this printer.
Actually I have had this scanner for 8 years. I have used it to digitize over 3000 of my 35mm slides. It takes a while at 4 at a time, but I think the results were very good. All resulted in pictures that look great on my 24" monitor. It also does a great job scanning in old photos and documents of any kind. Most look better than the original! I use it as my copy machine as well. Worked fine with Win Vista, Win XP, Win 7, 8 and now Windows 10. Not bad at all.
Purchased this to replace a Photo 1400 that was only 3 years only that had stopped feeding paper properly. Although I don't do that much printing anymore, when I do, it is mostly 8-1/2 x 11 and larger. I like that the 1430 takes the same ink and is functionally about the same, although it seems a little faster. The print quality is excellent, as has been the quality on the last 4 Epson photo printers I have owned back into the late 90's. If anything, the quality seems to get incrementally better with each generation of printers. Each new one just doesn't seem to last as long as the previous one. (The first one I had lasted 12 years.)
